Assembled! Check out two previews for Disney XD's Avenger's Assemble animated series

May. 10, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Disney XD has debuted two new previews for their upcoming Avengers Assemble animated series, which is taking the place of their previous Avengers show, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The new show follows the lineage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whearas Avengers: EMH followed the lineage of the comics. It's kind of an expected marketing move, but as a fan of the comics it's a little disappointing. I loved that Avengers: EMH was able to bring to light many of the great storylines from the comics, including Secret Invasion, Winter Soldier, the Kree/Skrull War, and many more. Sure, they modified aspects of them, but to see them in action was pretty damn cool.

Avengers Assemble looks to tap into new viewers who were fans of Joss Whedon's THE AVENGERS and establish a core audience built of both fans and non-fans of the comics. Seems reasonable, but I'm hoping it doesn't "dumb down" the cooler comic roots for the sake of appealing to everyone.

Assemble:

Here's a synopsis for the first two preview episodes:

Captain America is apparently destroyed by Red Skull, so Iron Man re-unites the team to try and avenge his friend and stop Red Skulls army. In the second part, Red Skull steals Tony Starks armor, and the Avengers must galvanize the team to stop him and M.O.D.O.K. from destroying New York City.

Avengers Assemble premieres on Disney XD officially on Sunday, July 7 at 11 a.m. ET, but you can catch the hour-long preview on Sunday, May 26 at 11 a.m. ET

Extra Tidbit: Do you prefer Earth's Mightiest Heroes or are you more game for Avengers Assembled?

"im not feeling this show so far, the ring tone joke reminds me of ultimate spiderman" EXACTLY - I have a dark foreboding about this!

I absolutely loved season 1 of Avengers: EMH (season 2 isn't available as a box set so have yet to see it). It was very disappointing to find out that it's been cancelled. It's a little more disappointing after seeing the animation in the above preview. Is it me ...or does it look very poor...like they're poor man's Super Hero Squad animated characters? Whatever happens though ...please don't let this be another Ultimate Spider-man replaces the Spectacular Spider-Man type of terrible

How the feck did something as brilliant as Spectacular Spider-Man get replaced by that nonsense???

EMH did it perfectly and set the tone so well that it will be a very hard contest to see if this new show can match or exceed what was done. Hell that show even did some of the avengers story lines better than the movies did. To have that series cancelled only to be replaced by something else is a real bummer but hopefully just hopefully this series will work out well.

It's a shame about EARTH'S MIGHTIEST HEROES,

they had some great writing (I thought the way they put Thor and Jane Foster together was better than the movie) and the ensemble cast really played well together. I'm neutral for now, but this really feels like a step down.

P.S. - Okay, I really don't like having to write this out twice before I can post.

Not interested.

I still watch cartoons, occasionally, but the superhero ones that are on TV have really sunk low for me. I watch the Marvel and DC animated films on TV, but that's it. Everything else on Disney XD and such have bad, pseudo-anime animation and are just too lighthearted to be taken seriously, even for a kids show. I really wish someone would come up with something as storied as Gargoyles or Batman TAS, Johnny Quest 3D or even Mighty Max (remember him?).

Don't know if this is gonna be any good from that little clip. I loved Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but the messed up the whole Galactus episode. What a waste of potential there.

Loved Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Hate that it got bumped off for this. Oh well. Disney's gonna do what Disney's gonna do.

I liked the ringtone joke. Re French-dude, I see where you're coming from, but I think it's really more a style thing than anything. A lot of animation in the 80s and 90s was very limited and did look very cheaply made - case in point, Star Trek The Animated Series and most of the things from Filmation. I won't argue about Batman the Animated Series looking extremely detailed, though.

Your example of Star Trek and stuff from Filmation are valid, but these seemed to be series just made in a hurry to cash in on good properties. And those defined more the 60s-70s than the 80s-90s. I grew up watching "japanimation", but also other good shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And there were good Franco-American stuff like "The Littles" and "Denver the last dinosaur". Those were classic animation and it still looks good today.

You do have a point there. Anime has almost always been very meticulously-animated and your example of TMNT is very valid. Perhaps animation does look more "production line" these days, if not outright "worse" that what came before.

I can't believe...

... the quality of animation today. It just SUCKS. Batman The Animated Series is 20 years old and it's got better animation than this. Come on, it's 2013 and coming from Disney, and the success of the Avengers, it's a pity that they just went for "good enough for kids" quality.

Right?? I thought I'm the only one who thinks like this. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and cartoons from those time were much better than what we have nowadays.

Funny the things nostalgia can do. The animation in this trailer is far more detailed than the animation in Batman: TAS. Of course, there was no such thing as high definition back in the '90's, so no one noticed. Plus, the animation in this show is more realistically proportioned, while TAS was stylized, which is far easier to do on a TV budget.

Deadly Sinner, I have to disagree. I still watch Batman TAS on dvd. It's no HD, but the animation is still better than most cartoons today. The backgrounds in Batman were painted and there wasn't much details I agree. But the characters were much more lively than the characters in this trailer. I don't know, for me, it seems that back in the day characters were actually DRAWN, but today it seems like they don't give a fuck anymore and just use computers to do all the work. It looks like it's

It looks like it's missing some images per seconds, lacking fluidity in movements. I don't know, there's just something lacking in today's animation.

The animation for Batman TAS was already great but it did something better than any series before or after of it's kind in my opinion. Storytelling. That's it's true legacy for me.

It's because animation back then was hand drawn, no digital animation back then.
