What the hell is 4DX? Great question! CJ 4DPLEX’s 4DX technology "enhances" the onscreen visuals of films, enabling an immersive experience through special effects that include motion-activated seats, wind, fog, rain, lightning, vibration, snow and scents. It's the D-Box and Smell-o-vision on steroids. And it's coming . . . for you! That is, if you live in the New York area. While a 4DX theater has already opened in LA, California and Gurnee, IL, NY will be home to two 4DX theaters this year. First up is the Regal Union Square Stadium 14 on March 25th, followed by the Regal E-Walk 13 on April 28th. The first feature for the former? BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.
Frankly, I don't go for this kind of gimmicky bullshit when it comes to my movie-watching experience. I like my rides to be rides, and my movies to be movies. The last thing I want when I watch a flick is a fan to be blowing in my face, or to be rained on when I'm trying to see Batman beat the crap out of Superman. Still, if that's your thing, power to ya. God help us if they work out the smells to accompany any movie with a fart joke. You know it'll happen.
