Awesome Art We've Found Around The Net: Back To The Future, Krang, Power Rangers, Teen Titans

Aug. 10, 2013by: Theodore Bond

Some cliche somewhere said that 'a picture is worth a thousand words.' This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. "Awesome Artwork We've Found Around The Net" is the outlet for that passion. In this column I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That's the aim, if you have any questions or comments, or even suggestions of art or other great artists, feel free to contact me any time at theodorebond@joblo.com.

Anything with the Green Ranger is automatically fucking awesome. A vastly under-used character in fan art. Win.

Hmm...not LOVING these.

There is something inherently wrong to me about a badass Inspector Gadget. If they drew him in the style of another famous cyborg, I could appreciate the irony, but the character is supposed to be kind of silly.

My favorite one is Magua, followed by Scott Pilgrim. I like the concepts for the Heisenberg and Skeletor pictures, but neither is as cool as it ought to be, considering (maybe if he was holding the hat instead of wearing it, we'd get more of the two-faced vibe it's going for).

Wasn't going for two face, was a copy of Scarface movie poster and box art. Thought it was pretty sick myself.

I know that. I meant to state that (was a part of an earlier draft, I swear). Two-faced is just a term that I believe applies with said Scarface poster (and the duality of W.W. and Heisenberg).

The concept IS pretty sick. I still don't like the way they rendered it. Maybe it's the pose, maybe it's the fact that if it didn't say Heisenberg and have his signature hat, and that Breaking Bad was about to come back on, I wouldn't know WHO they were trying to make like Tony Montana.

Meh.This round was alright. Skeletor looks so sad. I hope that's what they were going for cause fierce is certainly not what is being portrayed there.

You don't see what the image is going for? He has obviously won, his conflict is over and he is reflective on that - perhaps even down as he has no enemy to fight anymore. He has the sword, so obviously he has won. Pretty obvious to see.

That Teen Titans piece is excellent, love how the artist adapted the style of the show, made it a little less severe in how anime-esque it was, and employed a great use of colour and texture, particularly on Raven's cape. It's a pity they went in the comedic direction of "Teen Titans GO!" instead of, say, a more Young Justice-like take on the material with the same voice actors as before.

You know, I shall always be a Teen Titans fan. The Wolfman-Perez books were a huge part of my childhood. A person has to love the TT image from this week. It homages the main TT members appropriately. Appropriately, it includes Terra in the background. The Terminator shows-up, but he is sneaky in doing so. And, Jericho is probably in there somewhere; maybe, he has possessed somebody. Kid Flash can perhaps not be captured in the image.

Pan's Labyrinth

The credits below the artwork for Pan's Labyrinth are from "The Haunting In Connecticut." I have no idea why. I just noticed something was off when the director's name was wrong. When I looked at the rest, I saw that it was all the credits for a different movie.

Hahahaha

Back to the Future one is kind of hilarious. I know he is suppose to look like he is sliding across the hood but it just looks like Marty is spreading eagle on the hood for some DeLorean calendar shoot... probably for Doc.

Just figured out what was rubbing me wrong about Heisenberg. It isn't finished! Where's his left hand?! If you look at the Tony Montana pose on Scarface, in true Yin Yang fashion, he has ink on the white side, too. It's just completely unbalanced here!

Breaking Bad / Scarface mix is pretty sick, only one that raised an eyebrow though.

I caught it, but when I published it apparently I omitted that I knew what it was a homage to. I knew someone was going to do that. It's not a bad poster, but on initial look (and maybe because I'm not too crazy about this week's assortment) I just wasn't as taken with it as I feel I ought to be.
