Awesome Art We've Found Around The Net: Bane, Fargo, Jaws, Metroid

11.02.2013

Some cliche somewhere said that 'a picture is worth a thousand words.' This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. "Awesome Artwork We've Found Around The Net" is the outlet for that passion. In this column I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That's the aim, if you have any questions or comments, or even suggestions of art or other great artists, feel free to contact me any time at theodorebond@joblo.com.

Bane by Luke McKay The Birds by KePafrenico Bullitt by Tim Gillette Fargo by Chris King The Good, The Bad and The Ugly by Thomas Kirkeberg The Green Mile by Leo de Wijs Jaws by Mark Reihill Metroid by Kim Herbst Tropic Thunder by Nicolas Barbera Vacation by Dave Perillo

The birds, bullitt, green mile, and jaws are my favorites. The only two I don't really like are Bane, which has good art, but I just wish that we could have either seen him fighting someone, or at least seen some unconscious bodies on the ground. I also wish they wouldn't have drawn a TDKR version of Bane (though if there was one full TDKR scene that I would have liked to have seen - and I'm not sure why we didn't - it'd def be Bane kicking everyone's ass in that prison for Talia. And on a side note, when Wayne gets out and throws the rope down, isn't that REALLY irresponsible? How does Bats know that they are all good men like him and that he isn't releasing big-time criminals? And because of the races and accents of the other prisoners we see, I think it's safe to assume he's also releasing these possible criminals in not only a completely different city than Gotham, but a completely different country. Therefore, he's possible releasing infamous criminals and terrorist leaders into a country that's probably still developing and leaving them for their authorities to deal with - again - and if they are big-time criminals, they can probably easily corrupt the officials in these developing countries or escape/ hide in their gangs. If they are criminals and terrorists, how many innocent lives, extorted and ruined [link] and raped women will Bats indirectly be responsible for. You may even argue he's DIRECTLY responsible for. In fact, it probably wasn't even the local authorities that put these men in that prison, it was probably The League of Shadows. In the flashbacks, weren't most of the prisoners trying to rape Talia's mom AND like an 8-year-old Talia? Didn't Bane call that prison "hell?" Does Batman now go to lots of secret prisons around the world with inhumane living conditions and just free the prisoners? And if so, is it for kicks, b/c he's bored and needs new bad guys to hunt down, or has he really just become an authority on, and obsessed with, caves? "Now THIS is a cave Alfie!"). But I digress, the other piece I don't like is the Tropic Thunder one. The catchphrase and spilled ink look makes it look like a really shitty t-shirt you could buy at like Spencer's, Hot Topic, and even places like Target now.

Oh and The Green Mile kinda looks like Pixar mixed with the Clerks cartoon

I assumed the people in the prison with Bruce were people who stood up to Bane/The League of Shadows. Didn't one of the prisoners tell Bruce it was Bane's prison now? So it would make sense the people in there aren't necessarily criminals, just people Bane/Talia wanted out of the way for their plan. Now when Bane was in the prison, probably everyone in it was a criminal. But I figured most of them left with him when he left and joined the League of Shadows, with him or Ra's. But this is all

Yea. For one, I'm really just joking ab the Batman stuff. I thought that'd be obvious by the end, but I think I'm wrong with the down votes. I'm really just lightly making fun of TDKR - a movie that is entertaining, but perhaps stupider and with more plot holes than the last two fast and furious movies. Some ppl, or a lot of ppl, think that bc the film is dark and edgy, a lot better than the 2 movies before Batman Begins, that it has a great cast and solid performances, and that it's

Some ppl, or a lot of ppl, think that bc the film is dark and edgy, a lot better than the 2 movies before Batman Begins, that it has a great cast and solid performances, and that it's directed by this guy who started making quality batman films again, made a great joker, and hasn't made an outright bad film (though you come very close to making that statement untrue The Prestige, but your okay enough, better than a lot or just pure shit movies for sure) that the film should win the best picture oscar (I wouldn't have argued that much had TDK been NOMINATED for Best Picture, at least to symbolically show that these just bc a movie is based off a comic and is maybe funny and wise-cracking, doesn't mean it shouldn't be considered for Oscars - Iron Man 1, Spider-Man 2 - but even TDK had a lot of plot holes and just laziness. I believe Superherohype said TDKR was the greatest superhero movie ever, which is insane to me. TDK is clearly better if you just have to pick one of these Nolan/Bat films, but there is a lot of LAZY writing to wrap things up in TDKR (and yet it's still close to like 3 hours, isn't it?). I don't hate the film, it entertained me, but to say it's the best movie ever (it's not even the best BATMAN movie. That belongs to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns) is ridiculous and there's just been this weird bandwagon since Heath Ledger's death that take these movies so seriously, and the third one has just some absolutely terrible razzie award dialogue. I like that at least the last two fast films of worn their heart on their sleeve in the way they weren't asking to be taken terribly serious but to have a really good time at the movies (and also Justin Lin can shoot one on one fight scenes). Anyway, I'm just poking a little fun at it. And two, I agree with you, but if Bane and Talia are still following Raz's philosophy, they would have legit bad guys in there. Batman and Raz/LoS had a pretty similar philosophy - Bats learned most of his stuff from him - just Raz would kill the criminal, with no trial, and no grey area. He was also fine with killing "innocent" people, like ones who were really innocent, or the ones who just minded their own biz and ignored crime instead of doing what they could do to stop it. Now granted, Bane and Talia had a twisted view of her dad's philosophy. Since crime really had lowered and things were going well in Gotham since the end of the last movie, there was no reason to just completely destroy the city like Raz wanted. It was mainly just Talia wanting to get revenge on behalf of her dad, with some stuff thrown in to try to make it relevant about class. So in this ridiculous conversation I started up, I agree what u say is possible, and prolly partly true. They prolly keep some ppl down there like that scientist they kidnap at the beginning, ppl who will be resources for them later. But, how did the rumor of a child getting out and jumping the bricks without the rope make it if an old criminal wasn't there? I also think it's possible that if they had taken down another city in the Middle East or wherever bc crime was so high like what Raz wanted to do with Gotham in the first movie, there could also be some of that city's really bad villains, corrupt officials, etc. Ok I am done with this.

Awesome week. I want Bullitt and the Birds as posters, and Vacation, Tropic Thunder, and Good/Bad/Ugly as Tee Shirts.

Though one unfortunate fail.....its Steven Spielberg, not Stephen.

I'm not quite sure I get the point of the Jaws piece, is there a silhouette of the shark hidden on her ass?

I'm with HoyleHaw, love that Tropic Thunder piece. I highly recommend watching the movie with the commentary from Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. Downey Jr. stays in character as Lincoln Osiris though the whole thing, phases into Kirk Lazarus at the end and finishes it out of character. It's incredible.
