Awesome featurette and scene from Oliver Stone's Savages
"To me, it was the PULP FICTION of now," says John Travolta in this new featurette for Oliver Stone's SAVAGES. I doubt that SAVAGES has the quirk and charm of Tarantino's opus, but I do believe that it has the potential to live up to some of Stone's earlier, more brutal works like SCARFACE (as screenwriter) or NATURAL BORN KILLERS, which would suit me just fine.
In addition to the featurette, we have an extended scene between Salma Hayek, Blake Lively, and Benicio Del Toro that had me grinning from ear-to-ear. It's the kind of dialogue we rarely hear from Hayek and judging from that scene alone, she may be primed to have a really cool, defining role for herself as a ruthless drug lord.
Here's the featurette:

Here's the synopsis:
Three-time Oscar(R)-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone returns to the screen with the ferocious thriller Savages, featuring the all-star ensemble cast of Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch and Demian Bichir. The film is based on Don Winslow's best-selling crime novel that was named one of The New York Times' Top 10 Books of 2010. Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable marijuana producer, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry--raising some of the best weed ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town... until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them.
SAVAGES starts tearing up theaters on July 6, 2012.
|Extra Tidbit:||It's great to see Hayek back onscreen and taking on some meatier roles that fit her age and abilities. Nothing sadder than seeing an actress stuck in a rut, but Hayek seems to be progressing nicely, no?|
