Awesome trailer and details for HBO's True Detective series starring McConaughey and Harrelson

09.09.2013

When I first heard that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson would be teaming up in a police drama for HBO it sounded almost too good to be true. Not that it's necessarily a dream pairing, per se, but such a compelling one with both actors having a certain gravitas that may feel underutilized in a TV show. However, we all know that those days are gone, as this is currently the golden age of television. It's no longer a place where careers go to die, but to thrive, and True Detectives looks like something really special. The trailer plays like a taut, suspenseful serial killer thriller seeped in a realistic and dangerous setting with both actors bringing their A-game. It's proof positive that the wheels are still in motion for more outstanding original content hitting the small screen and I couldn't be happier.

Take a look:

Here's a brief synopsis:

The duo star as detectives Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives become entangled while searching for a serial killer in Louisiana.

What I dig even more about this series is that it's an anthology, like FX's American Horror Story. Each 8-episode season would replace the cast and story, making it easier to get top tier talent to shephard a season to fruition and (hopefully) keeping the series from going stale too soon. The first season is penned by Nic Pizzolatto (The Killing) with Cary Fukunaga (JANE EYRE) directing. In addition to McConaughey and Harrelson, co-stars include Kevin Dunn, Alexandra Daddario, Michael Potts, and Michelle Monaghan. For those looking to find a replacement for Breaking Bad or just looking for something new this may well fit the bill.

True Detective kicks off in January 2014 on HBO. McConaughey can next be seen in THE WOLF OF WALL STREET on November 15, 2013, THE DALLAS BUYERS CLUB on November 1, 2013, and Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR on November 7, 2014 and Harrelson graces the big screen again in THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE on November 26, 2013 and OUT OF THE FURNACE on December 6, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: All right, all right, all right, McConaughey is on a roll, eh?
