Aykroyd updates GB3

05.20.2009

Dan Aykroyd spoke to the Los Angeles Times for an upcoming feature and before getting into, well, whatever else it is he's up to, they spoke at length about GHOSTBUSTERS 3. Aykroyd confirmed that Ivan Reitman wouldn't be returning to direct the film - "he's too busy as a mega-producer" - but that he and the rest of the crew are hoping Egon himself, Harold Ramis, will step in to direct. (That "too busy" line is crap because Reitman had time to direct that piece of shit MY SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND. If Spielberg can find time to direct movies, so can Ivan Reitman.)

He also mentions that Sigourney Weaver has officially agreed to return for the film after declining to participate in the upcoming video game. As for who he'd like to see in the film to help usher in the new era of GHOSTBUSTERS, Aykroyd had some odd choices. He didn't throw out any of the oft-rumored Apatow players like Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill but instead Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano. Not sure how Aykroyd became smitted with Dushku but Milano recently stepped in to voice the lead female character in the video game after Weaver deferred.

With all these updates, Aykroyd wisely cautions that "at any second everything could blow up" and we'd be right back at square one. Which, come to think of it, might not necessarily be such a bad idea.

Extra Tidbit: Just for old times sake, some Bobby Brown GHOSTBUSTERS rap.

Unlikely to top the original, and more likely to be another Ghostbusters 2.

Sweet

I would love to see a really good faithful sequel to the franchise. It has so much potential to kick off with new sequels after that.

However, and even though I know they would never do this, I would LOVE to see a serious ghostbusters film. No comedy. Almost like a sci-fi horror.

Well this is surely now not going to feel in tone with the other two movies, now that Reitman won't direct, and Aykroyd isn't writing. And they are pushing this new team which no matter who they get, will not be any where as funny or well timed as the originals.

It will fail story wise, if they try to hand off the torch, because it's not about anyone can do this so here's the keys. It's about those 4, running that business. The obvious story, one more round with pestering phantoms and oncoming paranormal disaster, then closing all the windows to other worlds, shutting down the building and retiring.

For the first time in a good while I'm interested. Sigourney Weaver has agreed to return, which is really all I needed (that, and Rick Moranis).

And I kinda hope there aren't too many Apatow guys in this. Sure they're funny, but it's gotten so every comedy feels like a retread of Apatow.

I think going with all Apatow actors for this would be a mistake, but I always thought adding a female ghostbuster was a good idea. I was thinking Isla Fisher, but the other 2 choices would be good also.

I Don't See How The Apatow Crew Would Be Good For A Ghostbusters Flick...

I cant see them do it except for maybe Rudd or Cera but I just CANT see Rogen or Hill in it, it'd be breaking character the whole time and wont feel like a GB flick. No Apatow crew!

I'm a little surprised by the mention of Dushku. Milano makes some sense with the game and all. But to bring it back, Dushku is great and pretty underrated so I dig that. I just don't know how she'd fit into a new story.

And to cap off, hell yeah to Sigourney Weaver coming back.

I'm glad he hasn't mentioned any minions of Apatow because I'd hate to think the only way you can make a successful comedy nowadays is put Rogen/Hill/Rudd, etc in it. Personally, I think it's ten years too late for this movie. It's gonna be CGI'd to shit, Murray won't be in it and Aykroyd stopped being funny quite some time ago. It seems a little sad, but there is a teeny part of me that desperately wants it to work and I really like Harold Ramis. Who knows....

Lets get the ball rolling....

I love the idea of a new Ghostbusters film. Let's get this moving before its too late. I'm a little confused by Dushku and Milano...but a female buster would be interesting.

I could go either way

I'd be willing to see a new Ghostbusters if the original cast was involved, but would it ever live up to the originals?

Oh Darn...

I'm not sure if I'm in a minority here, but Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano have always been at the bottom of my Actress/Hottie list.

I will be totally happy if:
1. There's a new Ghostbusters movie.
2. M.A.S.K., Centurions, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs are to be made in live-action feature.

Right now, the no.1 is maybe becoming true, hopefully.
