Back to the Future and Jurassic Park getting the video game treatment

06.09.2010

What do you do when you want to remake a film, but you'll be violently assaulted if you do? Make a video game instead!

While they both have already had video games come out in the past, someone is giving it a-go again with JURASSIC PARK and BACK TO THE FUTURE. Also for the record (as far as I know), there's been no talk of remaking either movie. So you can sleep soundly. They've been trying to get another JURASSIC PARK off the ground, but it just hasn't happened.

Onward with the games! The root of the scoop comes from the latest issue of Game Informer magazine. They say that neither of the games will be sequels. Both will be released episodically containing different worlds and situations.

Telltale Games have partnered with NBC Universal to work on new games for both JURASSIC PARK and BACK TO THE FUTURE. Some of you may have played Telltale titles, "Sam & Max" or "Wallace & Gromit Grand Adventures".

There aren't really any other details. CEO of Telltale Games, Dan Connors had this to say about the partnership, "Our partnership with Universal is an exciting next step in our continued growth as a mass-market games publisher and developer. We are all huge fans of both of these franchises. For Back to the Future and Jurassic Park we will leverage Telltale's expertise in story-telling and game design to deliver on the unique elements of each series with our goal being to create compelling cinematic adventures paying homage to each franchise."

The only JURASSIC PARK game I ever played involved plastic guns and shooting dinosaurs. I never got my hands on the BACK TO THE FUTURE game, anyone ever play that back in the day?

Hopefully if they involve any of the original cast from the movies maybe they could do the voices. Christopher Lloyd!!!

Excited about the new JP game and BTTF. Now, the Mummy Returns was the worst movie to game adaptation that I have ever played. Piece O' Crap!

Released Episodically? Fuck that! Just give us the whole game at once!! I've been waiting oh what has it been, 3 years now? for Half-Life 2 episode 3 to come out.

I played the original "Back to the Future" game back in the day, and let me just put it this way... it is as terrible as The Angry Video Game Nerd says it is.

This could work. A rpg with people controlling marty as he interacts with people through time and causes paradoxes could make for an interesting game. As for jurassic park, the best one I ever played would have to be the one listed above. It had just about everything from theme park sim to 3rd person shooter. I cant wait to see what they do with those two. As for worst movie to game adaption that would have to be ET.

Best and worst

The worst movie video game of all time is ET for atari 2600. Hands down no questions asked. The best has to be the most recent Ghostbusters game.

anyone remember Jurassic Park on SegaCD? I had no idea what to even to with that game. I'd jsut kind of wander to different areas, and sometimes get a video from paleontologist Robert Bakker, but I NEVER SAW ANY DINOSAURS!

Jurassic Park for the SNES wasn't too bad, but it had one of the worst video game endings ever, especially with the time you had to put into it. I didn't care for either BTTF NES games. But yeah, hopefully they will go the way that Ghostbusters did and get some or all of the original cast to return for voice overs for each game. I've been itching for a Back to the Future game for a while now. I'm excited now! I guess the "88 Special" in Burnout: Paradise will have to do for now.

BTTF NES

I've played both BTTF and BTTF II&III. BTTF wasn't great but not horrible. BTTF II&III? HORRIBLE. It was so bad that I seriously contemplated calling the creators of the game and do what they did to the E.T. games and just have them bury all the copies in some desert never to be found again.

I'm not much of a gamer. I prefer Sega Genesis to XBOX 360. Jurassic Park is my favorite movie though so I might check this out. I still play the game for Sega once and awhile and it is still a pretty fun game.
Worst movie video game is Super Star Wars. It is an impossible fucking game. Best though is still Goldeneye.

worst movie video game

ET...

anyway...I don't think they would pursue a BTTF game without the cast...and I am sure all of them would be available, and willing

Ah dammit..

For a second there I was all excited for some awesome video game sequel like Ghostbusters or Stranglehold.

Instead it looks like it's going to be episodic LIVE nonsense. I don't expect the voice cast. Part of me barely expects voices at all to be honest.

Operation Genesis is actually pretty fun. Basically, you're John Hammond and you take care of the day-to-day operations of the park. You get to build the park, clone and feed the dinosaurs, cater to visitors, direct tours, and even fly a helicopter with a dart gun to sedate any dinosaurs that break free. You can even be irresponsible and make your dinosaurs fight.

If you're into adventure games, these will probably actually be good. Telltale is doing a great job with their episodic games so far.

Jurassic Park

I had a Park game on Sega Genesis back in the day, sidescroller type game. It was fun for the most part I suppose. Best video game from a movie I think is Treasure Planet, IDK WHY, but I fuckin loved playing that game. And to be honest, I can't think of a terrible experience I've had with a video game adapted from a movie. Probably because I've avoided playing them at all costs ;]
