Bad man of Avatar

It's still another year and a half before James Cameron's 3-D sci-fi epic AVATAR hits screens, and though they have a long way to go, they've managed to keep things relatively quiet so far.

Most of the main cast has been announced, but now we know who's playing the lead villain, and it's none other than... Matt Gerald? He's a secondary player with a filmography of minor roles in movies such as SWAT, IN THE MIX and the wonderfully terrible XXX2: STATE OF THE UNION, but Cameron obviously saw something there to merit main baddie status (hey, who knew Robert Patrick before T2?). Gerald next plays a cop in the adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's novel CHOKE.

The digital FX-heavy movie stars Sam Worthington as a war veteran sent to the distant planet Pandora, which is inhabited by a humanoid race with their own language and culture. The Earth visitors find themselves at odds with each other and the indigenous population. Also among the cast are Sigourney Weaver, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Wes Studi, the gorgeous Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, CCH Pounder and (unfortunately) Michelle Rodriguez.
Extra Tidbit: It's believed the movie's alien lifeforms have bioluminescent properties and prehensile tails.

Cameron definitely has a history of inspired casting, career-making, and having that eye for casting. I actually have a book interviewing various screenwriters where he was talking about how Scharzenegger got the role in "The Terminator," which aided the body-builder in no small part in his acting career.

Besides, looking at that photograph I can totally see this guy as a badass. Or maybe it's just the shaved head. Which half of all badasses sport.

Good for him!

I think it's great that this unknown just as previously mentioned Robert Patrick was got the lead. There are a lot of actors out there that just need that ONE role to make it. There are lots of excellent character actors. (See Stephen Tobolowsky, if you don't know who it is look him up on IMDB.com, he's currently on the lackluster 2nd season of "Heroes" although the last ep. gave me hope) That was a terrible run-on sentence I know. Back to the point. There are lots of quality potential

Back to the point. There are lots of quality potential leading men and women that just need that "IT" role to make it. It's great to see that someone such as James Cameron can pick whoever the hell he wants in whatever he wants. Can't think of many other's that can do that and get away w/it. But who's gonna argue w/a guy who's 200 million dollar movie (which everyone was ridiculing him for at the time, although he laughed to the bank) grossed 1.8 billion worldwide right? Personally I can't wait to see this sure to be at the very least weird flick.
