Bad people do good things in the latest Suicide Squad trailer

04.10.2016

Suicide Squad trailer Margot Robbie Harley Quinn

Back when Warner Bros. began to announce the first films of their DC Cinematic Universe, I took one look at SUICIDE SQUAD and dismissed it as merely something to fill the gap between BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and WONDER WOMAN. Then, David Ayer came on-board as director and the cast began to fill out with some interesting additions; still, I wasn't entirely optimistic that SUICIDE SQUAD would amount to anything special. My tune definitely changed once the first footage from the flick emerged at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, and ever since then, each trailer has been better than the last as they offered up a delightfully deranged peek at what could be the best entry in the DCEU so far.

A brand spankin' new SUICIDE SQUAD trailer debuted tonight during the MTV Movie Awards and, just like it's predecessors, it's an absolute blast. Check it out!

A synopsis for SUICIDE SQUAD:

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

SUICIDE SQUAD will explode into theaters on August 5, 2016.

love that they went with the Scott Snyder influence of the Joker. Pretty iconic. Also love that Joker embraces his title as the clown "PRINCE" of Crime and has bling.

Leto's gonna steal the show, no doubt, but the rest of the cast is good enough that they all look like they'll get their moment in the sun. It's a nice contrast to have the more stark and serious BVS and then the more pulpy and zany Suicide Squad in the same year. I'm kind of betting that when the year ends, people will start to warm up to BVS more and accept it wasn't the train-wreck most critics and some fans made it out to be.

"All that chit-chats gonna get ya hurt!"

I was convinced Leto would be an impressive Joker, but judging from the trailer, he's easily going to be one of the most iconic portrayals.

So it seems the Joker won't just be relegated to flashbacks after all (I get the feeling this was the *real* reason for the reshoots, tbh)

Will... looks out of place

Looks like a hell of a ride... yeah, my only concern is 'Will' being 'Will'... fingers crossed for Leto's performance and Margot is a doll

Solid trailer, and we first had Bohemian Rhapsody and now Ballroom Blitz, I think we'll get Alice Cooper's Feed my Frankenstein or Tia Carrere's Why You Wanna Break My Heart in the next trailer....thoughts?

At least judging by the trailer, this movie looks like everything BvS wasn't: namely FUN and full of lively, memorable performances. If this is a success, WB should consider handing over the reigns of the DCEU to David Ayer.

Seeing more of The Joker has me convinced Leto did a good job. I don't think it will top Ledger but Leto seems convincing so far. My biggest complaint though is Will Smith.

I feel it's going to be hard to compare Joker performances between Leto and Ledger. Both are products of two very different movies. The Dark Knight Trilogy was trying to show Batman based in the real world, whereas DCEU is trying to fully embrace it's comic book roots. I think both will be different and great and I doubt either one will take anything from the other's performance.

Same here dude.. Will seems out of place there, the thing is he cannot stop being himself, he feels too much of a 'star' ...hope Ayer directed him properly

Joker excluded

Can't wait till this hits the theaters. Looks like a fun, non stop roller coaster of a ride. Just wish the Joker actually looked like the Joker. Hoping Leto's performance makes me forget this.

The premise is so stupid

Let's get crazy killing bad guys in case Superman does something we don't like. Why does everyone think that he is this horrible monster that's just laying in wait to destroy the world, when he has done nothing but good.

If we were talking about Christopher Reeve's Superman, I'd agree with you. Henry Cavill's Supes is a little less predictable.

As above, this new Superman is nowhere near as sweet and innocent as old-school Christopher Reeve's Supes. So far Henry Cavill's Superman has been quite inconsiderate of the destruction he causes. Even when fighting Batman in BvS he has no qualms about flying batman straight through a building without a second thought. It's reasonable to assume that the new DC universe has much more grey area that the good/bad old days of Superman.

This honestly just looks like a really fun fucking time at the movies. I don't care about the DCEU conections, I don't care how it fits into events established in BvS. I don't care about how good or bad BvS is. This as it's own movie, just looks like it will be a joyride in the theatre. There looks to be enough stuff to connect it to the DCEU, but it's removed just enough to stand on it's own thing. And with someone like David Ayer in the director's chair, I anticipate even the people that

So far, the trailers look great. I hope that they match the tone of the film. Really like the design of Killer Croc, awesome that's it's all make-up.

SWEEETTT!!!!

Every trailer has looked better than the last. As much mixed emotions I had regarding BvS even before I saw the movie, I've never felt this way about Suicide Squad. This one is going to be a hit I guarantee it. People also need to stop assuming that the reshoots were done just to make the movie more "fun." Reshoots happen all the time.

Just something about this trailer seems so right and unique among the superhero films. I think it's the attitude it conveys that the characters aren't joking to be funny, but because they really don't care and are convinced they're as good as dead.
Extra credit to whomever gave Harley her mallet.

The more these trailers I see, the more I think this is totally going to work. I was so optimistic off the bat, but I'm happy DC is working outside the box and delivering something different. Saying that, I'm still not buying the look for the Joker and Quinn. I think both actors will deliver on a decent portrayal. But I just hate how they're advertising that they're bad in their clothes and tattoo's.

Loved what the trailer showed, but it's sad that it was obviously made solely to show the humor. I wish DC didn't feel the need to conform to Marvels standards, or rather feel pressure to do so. I love that DC is so so different from Marvel, so much darker. Obviously whatever route they take I'll be there, but I sincerely hope they stay their current course!

I'm all for something different but difference for the sake of difference won't get it done. To keep the studio from bolting for try and tested, it has to be different done well. Stay the current course? I say keep the tone but calm the fuck down, slow down, concentrate on the scripts and THEN perhaps WB will not need to go for Marvel (which to be honest going by this trailer I don't think they have). Let's hope Ayer is their ace in the hole.

All the talks there is about WB doing this film "the Marvel way" are way overblown. Harley Quinn is a comedic character and every attempt to make her serious (those I've seen) have been failures. There isn't much else to do with a Suicide Squad movie than make it a little crazier and a little funnier. As for the alleged "tone" of the DC universe, let's not forget that there's only been 2 films so far, both directed by the same person. It's normal that they felt the same.

So hoping the end result matches the trailers: the crazy-fun tone and the James Gunn style music really work.

I second that. This film (against the odds) still has me genuinely interested in the DCCU despite being disappointed with their first two offerings. If this goes the same way though, well...

btw wasn't one rumor that they put all the humor-stuff in the bohemian rhapsody trailer? Seems like they still got plenty left...

UPDATE from Ayer himself:

It still looks better and better to me. I mean, it kinda kills me on the inside that Margot isn't even trying to do the high pitched Brooklyn accent, but I'll get over it.

Should be a nice counter and transistion from Dawn of Justice. Looks fun as hell and the cast seems to be relishing in their band of misfits of characters. And this film should hopefully bounce DC back in the right direction from all the naysayers point of view.

But I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being the best comic book film of the year.

Not blown away by new trailer, but I will reserve judgement

Im really having a hard time warming up to the look of the Joker. Jared Leto's performance seems to be solid so it will probably be okay, but he just doesn't look like the Joker. Also, Margot Robbie seems to be a bit inconsistent as Harley Quinn. Sometimes she seems in character and sometimes not.

I was hesitant to accept him as well, but now I think his performance (from the trailers) is more like the comic joker than any other. Very theatrical and menacing.

I have no doubt he'll give a great performance, but maybe after this film his appearance will evolve slowly into the more iconic look of the Joker. But at this point, I'm fine with the new look of this new interpretation.

Well, I know this goes against the grain, but I don't have much hope for Leto's version, didn't care for Ledger's and was just satisfied by Nicholson (which has been the best so far). I feel that NO ONE has done the best Joker yet and the character is wide open for interpretation.
