Baker: Wolfman maker

Benicio del Toro will get excessively hairy as the titular shapeshifter of the upcoming remake of Universal's THE WOLF MAN. But who'll make him monstrous?

Apparently it's precisely the guy you'd want for the job: multiple Oscar-winning FX guru Rick Baker. The man who so convincingly transformed a tourist into a nightmarish lycanthrope over 25 years ago in AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON will reportedly make a few changes to Benicio's appearance, according to Shock Till You Drop.

Baker's no stranger to werewolves, having also crafted hirsute creatures for CURSED, WOLF, and the 80s WEREWOLF series. He also counts everything from MEN IN BLACK to COMING TO AMERICA to STAR WARS on his filmography, so it's no surprise director Mark Romanek (ONE HOUR PHOTO) wants him for his update of the classic monster movie. The new version of THE WOLF MAN was penned by Andrew Kevin Walker (SEVEN, PANIC ROOM) and should start howling at the moon in December for a late 2008 release.
Extra Tidbit: Original WOLF MAN actor Lon Chaney Jr. played the character in five different movies, which found him meeting Frankenstein's monster, Dracula and Abbott & Costello.

Great news. American Werewolf in London is my personal fave, Oliver Reed's wolfman was good, and those Lon Chaney flicks are a guilty pleasure as well. I hope they'll be doing minimal CGI since Baker's on board. And Dave, congrats on being able to write an informative post that didn't make me scratch my furry head.

I've been waiting for this movie to come out since i first heard about it. Its a remake that I'm perfectly fine with because, del Torro is amazing and I love the old school horror movies, they're the true horror movies. He also kinda has a little, Lon Chaney Jr. thing going on.

Gonna be good

I'm really looking forward to this one now, had no idea that Mark Romanek was attached to this project. One Hour Photo was OK, it had its flaws but it nevertheless showcased his talent - he definitely has a great film in him and I think this could be it.
And oh, Andrew Kevin Walker is a great writer so it has the perfect combination= a)promising director b)good script c)great charismatic actor.
