Variety is reporting that Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams have signed on to costar in the high-concept romance THE TIME TRAVELERS WIFE. The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Audrey Niffenegger and will be directed by Robert Schwentke, most recently responsible for the profitable yet paltry FLIGHTPLAN.

Bana will star as Henry de Tamble, a librarian who has a genetic disorder that causes him to travel through time. During his journeys, he meets the young heiress Claire Abshire (McAdams) and falls in love with her. Of course, since Henry is too busy surfing the space-time continuum, their relationship suffers. Long distance relationships never work out.

Brad Pitt will take on producing duties and the pic is set to start filming in August for New Line who must adore McAdams after working with her on THE NOTEBOOK and WEDDING CRASHERS. Shes got the Iraq war drama THE RETURN up next, while Bana has LUCKY YOU with Drew Barrymore opening on Decemeber 21st, and can be seen later this year in THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL, as King Henry VIII with Scarlett and Natalie. Yep, that Scarlett and Natalie.

Extra Tidbit: Gus Van Sant was originally in negotiations to direct this film, with Brad Pitt planning to star.

EXCELLENT NEWS

The time traveller's wife is the BEST book I have ever read ... nothing like Butterfly Effect ... I wish I had never read it so I could go back and enjoy every page again. You have no idea how amazing this book is, the detail, the story, the amount of time spent on each of their timelines. Just superb! AND it could make a ripper movie, here's hoping. McAdams, great choice. Bana, well he's Aussie so great choice too. This is the one movie I will be waiting for with baited breath ...

Not bad...

Love Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana redeemed himself with Munich. This story is highly original when it comes to the time-traveling genre, a feat that's not easy to pull off. I hope they get it right.
