Bardem is Beautiful

One of the most sought after actors in Hollywood--and rightfully so--is Javier Bardem. Somehow I just assume that every movie this guy is in will be quality. Dude just strikes me as someone with good taste (although even a monkey would have the forsight to say yes to a film with Penelope and Scarlett).

In the continuing tradition of good taste, Bardem is set to star in BIUTIFUL, for renowned Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (he of BABEL, AMORES PERROS, 21 GRAMS fame). The film is about a man embroiled in shady dealings who is confronted by a childhood friend who just happens to be a policeman. No word yet on whether the narrative will be disjointed, hopping back and forth in time and space, as is usually the case with Inarritu's films. This one may in fact be a departure from that narrative style, due to the recent squabbles he and long time collaborator Guillermo Arriaga have had over writing credits for their previous three collaborations. Apparently the two are no longer friends. That makes Javier and I sad.
Extra Tidbit: If you haven;t yet seen Bardem in THE SEA INSIDE, check it out pronto. It'll have you crying in your mommy's arms.

Bardem is an incredibly good actor, yet Mr. Barna has been fooled by his roguish Spanish charm if he thinks every picture he's associated with is quality. See Love in the Time in Cholera, that'll change your mind. Good novel, baaaaaaaadly exectured film.

This new project sounds solid though, I mean it's Inarritu, and his films have been good (if occasionally overrated) so far.

JAVIER AS KRATOS

Before Bret Ratner associated his contaminated name with the rumored God Of War movie, I always envisioned Javier Bardem as the perfect Kratos! He's got the jawline, the physique, the age...it's like he could make Kratos his 'Jack Sparrow', y'know? Bleh...but now that Ratner's in the mix Bardem's not gonna' want to have anything to do with it. Plus, Ratner's foresight and creative depth is the equivalent of batshit so yeah, I can see Vin Diesel in the role already.
