To all those online critics who spread rumors that INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS could be cut for US release by up to 40-minutes, Quentin Tarantino has this to say: Fuck you, I'm gonna make it LONGER!. Quentin didn't actually say that (at least not outside of his internal monologue) but did confirm to Variety that the rumors were "complete lies" and that "the movie is actually a minute longer, in running time, than it was in Cannes. It was 2:28, without end credits, and now it’s 2:29."

That isn't to say that scenes weren't excised from the Cannes cut. Some things were cut but some things were added like this scene that Tarantino describes: "I’d shot another scene...where Fassbender meets The Basterds, before they go to La Louisiane. That’s back."

If you read the script, you know there's an extended sequence that shows how Donny Donowitz gets his trademark Nazi-beating baseball bat back in Boston but Tarantino says he didn't edit it back in because he's saving it for a prequel. "This and other scenes I shot, I’ll put in reserve. If I were to do a prequel, I can just use that stuff, it’s ready to go," says Tarantino, though later adding, "Then again, I was going to do all these animated prequels to Kill Bill. I didn’t end up doing any of those."

He cut the "Donny gets his baseball bat" scene? I really liked that scene in the script. I bet he cut it because it required Eli Roth to act and, well, he can't. Saving it for a prequel? Sure. At least he admitted that he's got a knack for SAYING he's going to do something but never actually following through.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post. I don't know what happened.

Im well aware that there are always cuts made to movies following cannes, but this is ridiculous. it seems like every other day we're hearing a story about stuff being added, stuff being deleted (major cuts & additions too). and QT constantly overhypes the hell out of this movie. if its that good, then what else is left to be done.

I'll be waiting for DVD on this one. As with most QT movies, it's always handy to have a fast-forward device in hand.

He needs to make up his mind.
It seems that his editing for I.B. has been going crazy. He should just stick to what works and not save scenes for movies that are never going to be made.

The film *did* play at Cannes. It's not uncommon for films to be exhibited at the festival (or any other festivals) and be amended before wide release.

I'm still of an open mind on this flick. A lot of people didn't like "Death Proof", although I loved it.

i thought this thing was supposed to be ready to go by cannes. along with the mixed reviews, this thing sounds like a huge mess. which is a real shame. tarantino has fallen from his throne - and rightfully so after Death Proof. i tried giving that turd another chance about two weeks ago on Starz, i couldnt make it through 20 minutes without excruciating boredom. and theyre saying this is just...

I agree. Death Proof sucked and IB keeps getting messier by the day.

Sounds okay. I still feel like this movie isn't gonna do well at the boxoffice it has everything going against it; long, rated-R and 70% subtitles.

Will have to wait and see whether or not the movie needs those forty minutes, but for now I'll keep the faith. Only thing thats disappoints is the exclusion of the Boston baseball bat introduction. I remember reading about that character description way back before any casting had started. Oh well.
