Bates Motel will revive an essential Psycho character

Bates Motel, which just concluded its fourth season yesterday on A&E, hit viewers with a big twist. As it runs screaming into its fifth and final season, viewers are left wondering just where the series can go. Well, according to executive producer Carlton Cuse, the show is going PSYCHO.

The prequel series will be merging timelines with the original film by bringing back a very important character from Hitchcock's 1960 original film: Marion Crane, originally played by Janet Leigh. Says Cuse, “We do hope to see Marion Crane next season. That will be a big moment.” When asked if she would appear in multiple episodes, Cuse responded simply: "Yes."

So now we know that Norman Bates' most famous victim is coming back to life (for a limited time only), and not just for a cameo in a finale. We're getting an arc! As they approach the original film, they run the risk of merely repeating highlights from a classic that everybody already knows. But never fear! Cuse has also stated “We wanted the final season to allow us to do our version of the Psycho lore. We will be colliding with certain events in the narrative of the film, but it would be boring to just recreate Psycho.”

It will be interesting to see who they cast to breathe life into this iconic character, because they will certainly be under immense scrutiny. If they cast a Victoria Justice, there might just be rioting in the still fervent PSYCHO fandom. We'll just have to see though, won't we?
