Batman to have a love interest in Zack Snyder's Batman/Superman film

Sep. 4, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Looks like Batman will find some time for romance in the BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN film. According to Latino Review, the folks at WB are currently sending out the drones to locate an actress that can go tte--tte with Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) in the follow up to MAN OF STEEL. Accordingly, they are looking for someone who is "tall and possesses physicality."

"Theyre looking for someone in their late 20s and are open to all ethnicities. So not only does the 42 year old Goddamn Batman like em at least a decade younger, but playboy Bruce Wayne doesnt discriminate either."

So, it's not surprising at all that Bruce Wayne would have a younger love interest as that's a common thing, but what has the potential to be surprising is just which character she'll be. In the previous Batfilms the most interesting love interests came from Tim Burton's films (Kim Basinger's Vicki Vale and Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman to be exact). The Schumacher films were flavor-of-the-week actresses (even if one of them was Nicole Kidman) and Nolan's films hopped around a bit with Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal playing the same character and Anne Hathaway sweeping in to finish the trilogy. Still, I never felt we got to know the female interests in Nolan's films as well as Burton's, so it will be interesting to see where they go with his next onscreen evolution.

What do you think? Who are your choices (both character and actress)?

BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN is set to hit on July 17, 2015.

Extra Tidbit: Who has been your favorite Batman love interest so far?

Who cares?

It doesn't even say its really a part in the movie. It could be one scene. It could be just exposition. But don't let that get in the way of your freaking out and shrieking to the heavens. Clearly, Snyder, Affleck an company are on a mission to ruin Batman, their careers an the world as we know it.

Man of Steel 2 this is not...

Seems like they are trying to force an Avengers like "team up" movie rather than making a TRUE sequel to MoS like they should. Supes is getting screwed.

As already mentioned...

Why would a supporting character need a love interest? If Batman is just supposed to be a supporting role at this point in a Man of Steel sequel, I don't see the need for him to have a girlfriend, unless it's just like a scene where "playboy" Bruce Wayne has some arm candy draped around him. But also, can we have just one Batman movie that isn't bogged down by a love interest? Just one? I really want this iteration of Batman to be built as the loner who's sworn an oath to his city and let's

No getting tied up in a relationship that forces him to ultimately choose between his cause and his heart. Please, just make one movie where Batman gets to be Batman, and not Bruce Wayne in costume, if that makes any sense.

Silver St. Cloud

I've always found Silver to be one of Bruce's more interesting girlfriends from the comics and would love to see her done well on screen. But I certainly wouldn't be opposed to a new take on Vicki Vale either.

3 very simple words ...

Talia al Ghul

Would be perfect and hit the comics/recent video games perfectly, and somewhat tie back to Nolan's films just even a bit. She's an al Guhl, so she can resurrect.

Could be a supporting role or might be a character who turns hero or villain down the line - Batman dating the psychologist who becomes Harley Quinn? Probably not as I doubt they'll risk Joker again so soon.
Would be better if the focused on the dynamics of Supes and Bats' relationship but if the woman in question is to be a part of that, there's so many directions they could go with this casting/that character. Batman dating a still undercover Supergirl or Wonder Woman? Wouldn't put it past

Who is that middle chick?

If you're looking at 4 Burton movies and 3 Nolan movies, then the middle chick should be Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy. Please don't tell me that the throw-away character played by Elle McPherson counted as anything like a "love interest"....I've seen that movie at least 5 times and had to fucking look up that Bruce Wayne even had a goddamned girlfriend in it...WTF?

Even though Uma Thurman had a much larger role, she didn't play Batman's love interest. So in terms of this article it should be Elle McPherson as Julie Madison in the photo. Funny thing is, Julie Madison was from the comics and was Bruce Wayne's fiancé, which they actually got right in the movie. It was terribly executed of course, since her role was like 5 minutes of screen time.

This is one thing I was worried about this film. Primarily this film should be a Batman in a Superman film and not the other way around. Batman doesnt need a goddamn love interest, he just needs to be there to kick ass. Either way, since they are going this route Id like to see Vicky Vale or even Silver St. Cloud as his romantic interest.

I think Sasha Bordeaux, who started out as Wayne's bodyguard, might work, particularly since they're open to casting actresses of different ethnicities. Her later involvement with Checkmate could open doors to a further DC universe.

Also, as stated by several schmoes earlier, I did like how the World's Finest animated film handled it, with Lois Lane developing a romantic interest in Bruce Wayne. When talking about how she likes Superman, not Clark and Bruce, not Batman, Batman says "too bad

damnit.

Interest is rapidly waning for this. I liked "Man of Steel". I liked it a lot. But in just a few announcements they've managed to squander what good will I had.

Maybe Batman can date Jenny Olsen.

Also, is it to early to do a "Cast This" for the new Alfred?

Have Stana Katic casted as Catwoman and make her the love interest for Bruce.

I also think Emily Blunt would make for a terrific Catwoman.

I wouldn't mind another Catwoman. They're already re-doing Batman and re-did Spiderman so quickly, so just because they just had her in TDKR, doesn't mean much. Would rather have someone interesting like her, especially if they could finally build her into a character that would continue into the next movie. We've been shafted with that twice. The true Batman Returns followup with Catwoman was shelved because of complaining parents who didn't like the dark film and we got CINO, and now the

why does Batman need his own love interest?

no Bruce/Clark/Lois love triangle? well i guess since Lois already know's Superman's identity it won't work as well, but the whole "she likes Bruce over Clark, but Superman over Batman" is a fun storyline and feeds into their rivalry. then again, it does make Lois look like a gold digger/power slut.

What the fuck is sexist about that? That he prefers one actress to another? That's not sexism, champ, it's just preference.

I agree with you retlaw. I thought Gyllenhall was a downgrade and incredibly irritating in Dark Knight. I would've preferred Holmes.

So Cliche'

You know would it hurt them to come up with an original idea once in a while, not every movie needs a romantic angle. And if they are going to have one take a tip from The Thomas Crown Affair an age appropriate women can be just as hot as a immature one. But what do you expect from the Rich White Guy perspective that is Hollywood.

Is this still a Superman movie?

Man of Steel already did so little efforts to flesh out the Lois & Clark romance, the sequel will introduce Batman AND his own love interest in the sequel? Considering the movie is already based on The Dark Knight Returns, a Batman story, we have more and more reasons to worry that Snyder is pushing Superman away in favor of the superhero he's really interested in.

As for the Extra Tidbit, none of the previous franchise have been particularly successful. Rachel Dawes could've been special

As for the Extra Tidbit, none of the previous franchise have been particularly successful. Rachel Dawes could've been special because she's the only one to ever come back in more than one film but the recasting took that advantage away. It would be a fight between the two Catwomen, with Hathaway having the more nuanced and faithful character but Pfeiffer gaining the edge because faithful or not, her character had more time to develop a chemistry with Batman.

So I guess Jennifer Garner's out?

I can live with the whole "love interest" scenario as it's not leaving movies anytime soon. It's supposed to appeal to the wives/girlfriends of the comic geeks, don'cha know (most geek SO's I know couldn't care less, but that's Hollyweird for ya).

Odette Yustman would work: she's tall and in the right age bracket. Mlanie Laurent would be a nice addition as well. I'd love to see Gina Carano as a crimefighter who can go toe-to-toe with the big boys but I doubt Carano has the acting

Zack Snyder might just be crazy enough to finally set up the real Batgirl/Oracle story on the big screen. And various media including The Animated Series have hinted at a more-than-kinda creepy fling between Bruce Wayne and Barbara Gordon.

Olivia Wilde or Mila Kunis as Batgirl perhaps? Thus setting up a Batman solo feature that tells of how Batgirl became Oracle?

No Love Interest please

Id Rather this Batman not have a Love interest, and be to dark and to miserable for a love interest.. id even have less Bruce Wayne, and focus more on Bats.. Do a love interest much later on, focus on character development, have me/audiences fall in love with Batman all over again... Have him be the detective he is, have him manipulate people, have him almost miserable towards others (not being able to trust others with their abilities/powers, not believing they are responsible enough).
