Zack Snyder's Batman vs. Superman filming a football stadium scene this weekend!

10.15.2013

Wasting no time, it seems that Zack Snyder's BATMAN VS SUPERMAN film is set to begin shooting this weekend, filming a football game between "Gotham City University and rival Metropolis State University" during the halftime of the game between ELAC and Victor Valley College at East Los Angeles College on October 19th. No word on whether or not the principle stars Ben Affleck or Henry Cavill will be there, but if you're in the L.A. area or happen to be an ELAC student, this could be your opportunity to "get in the game."

Details below:

Warner Bros. Pictures announced through a press release that Snyder and producers of the film are looking for people in the Los Angeles area, preferably ELAC students, to be extras for the upcoming film.

The stadium will be made into the backdrop for a football game between Gotham City University and rival Metropolis State University.

The first 2,000 people who sit in the filming area of the stadium will receive T-shirts designed by Snyder for those participating in the filming and prizes will be raffled throughout the night.

The crowd will sport Gotham Citys colors, black and gold.

The film will shoot three takes of three plays during halftime. The crew will be capturing the actors and crowd’s reactions.

ELAC’s College event and Venue Coordinator, Ernest Burnett, said that the filming will be about 20 minutes during halftime. The second half of ELAC’s game will follow the film shoot.

The last DCU film to feature a stadium scene resulted in the destruction of said stadium in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, although I'd wager this is more of a "setting" kind of thing, establishing the worlds of both Gotham City and Metropolis. Of course, that's pure speculation as nobody but the production really knows how it's all shaking out. I think the most important thing to glean from this news is that BATMAN VS SUPERMAN is actually happening and wasn't just a geektastic announcement at Comic Con.

BATMAN VS SUPERMAN is set for release on July 17, 2015.

I like the idea, the rivalry between two college football teams being symbolic of Batman vs. Superman.

I feel bad that you're being thumbed-down so much for this. Not the best joke in the world, but hardly offensive. =)

Why?

I know football is a hot thing here in the states, but why do we need another football game sequence? I guess baseball would have been too boring unless you had Superman being thrown into the scoreboard.

The good thing is...

...all the people who complained about TDKR's football sequence will reappraise the film when Snyder's movie comes out, when they have something worse to complain about. This movie's gonna suck, just sayin'. And I'm not a fanboy hater or anything, I gave Snyder a bunch of fair chances - I honestly think he's one of the worst directors today and for some reason doesn't get flak for it. I wanted to like Man of Steel and thought it would be his first great film, but no. It was mediocre.

Dude gets ton of flak. Why do you think Man of Steel has such a low rating on Rotten Tomatoes? Every critic was just bashing the hell out of Snyder.

Whoa they're starting to film already??

That seems pretty quick to me, I guess they have a solid script and storyboard in place! But this just seems weird to me. The first thing I thought of when I heard this particular piece of news is, of course, the football scene in TDKR. It just seems odd to have yet another football game as the centerpiece to a set in a reboot of Batman. Not saying it's a bad idea or anything, since we obviously have no idea what's going to happen. Just seems a bit odd, is all. Can't wait for our first footage

Question for DC fans

Can someone tell me what cities Metropolis and Gotham are supposed to be in real life? I assume Metropolis is NYC and Gotham is Chicago (because The Dark Knight movies were filmed there). But seeing that Gotham is an island in those movies, I guess Gotham is NYC too? Has there ever been a map showing where these cities are on a map? Are they still supposed to be in the United States of America? Are the cities in states that are named? I wish they'd just have the superheroes live in real cities,

It would make things less complicated.

Take you pills son, it's just make believe. It's all for fun! See just like most of Marvel's characters have stupid names that rime, DC chooses to use fake names for their cities. It's just fun that way!

I remember reading awhile back in a comic that Gotham City was in a state called Gotham (Much like NYC is in New York state) but that was likely just a writer throwing that in there and it probably isn't 100% official. On the show "Smallville" both Smallville and Metropolis were in Kansas, but that was mostly to explain how the characters traveled back and forth between cities so quickly. I read in yet another comic years ago that both Gotham and Metropolis are in the same state, but on

I read in yet another comic years ago that both Gotham and Metropolis are in the same state, but on opposite ends of a fairly large state. It really just depends on the writer of that particular story. Both cities are USUALLY depicted as being on the eastern seaboard and boardering the Atlantic Ocean. Sorry I don't have specific titles and issue numbers for you - after years of comic reading some of this stuff has just stuck with me.

I didn't see Man of Steel but I heard people say that Metropolis is not New York in the film and that it is thought to be somewhere in Maryland. In the comics, there is Metropolis, Gotham and New York City so neither city is New York even though Gotham looks a lot like New York.

Wow...no one actually knows this? Not very many DC readers here. Metropolis is in New York state, there is still a NYC. Gotham is south of it in New Jersey. Can't believe with all the folks here no one knew this.

Really disappointed with MoS but I'm sure repeat viewings will soften my stance over this...and if not...my love for comic book films will eventually blind me to the faults. Very excited for this...whilst I'm not sure over Affleck...things like this will be overlooked (he'll probably win me over anyway)...because ultimately...this is a Batman Superman film!!!! I was clearly born at the right time. What a time to be an adult who appreciates the movies we're getting...even if they're not as

Is this what the "Vs." in the title is alluding to?
