Batman vs Superman pushed back to 2016

Jan. 17, 2014by:

Rumors were circulating earlier that Ben Affleck had suffered a leg injury pushing back BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. There’s no mention of any injuries in the official press release but the film has been pushed back to May 6, 2016:

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Superman/Batman film has been moved to May 6, 2016, allowing the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to second quarter of this year. The Studio has also set a July 17, 2015, worldwide release date for its as-yet-untitled all-new Peter Pan adventure. Joe Wright will direct the epic live-action film about the boy who would never grow up, created by J.M. Barrie. The dual date announcement was made by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases. We share the fans’ excitement to see DC Comics’ most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016. Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today’s moviegoers.”

Kwan Vandenberg added, “We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next Super Hero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever. The summer release corridor is also perfect for Joe Wright’s ambitious new Peter Pan adventure, reimagining the ageless story of the beloved and forever-young hero for audiences worldwide.”

Zack Snyder’s Superman/Batman film stars Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, and Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, and also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.

Here’s where it gets interesting—BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, X-MEN: APOCOLYPSE, and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 will all drop within the same amount of time. Who will come out on top? Right now, it’s hard to say but my bets are on X-MEN heading against BATMAN VS SUPERMAN.

Also, does this mean that they will in fact be filming JUSTICE LEAGUE alongside the film, or did they decide to just flat out film a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie instead?

Kinda crazy

but as soon as they added WW this movie gets pushed back. That character is box-office and television poison. How many in development movies and TV shows has that character cancelled on her own and now this?

Good they'll have a full two and a half years to produce it rather than barely a year and a half. Still barely interested as MoS was shite.

I heard it was because of reshoots

I was really looking forward to this movie but maybe its for the better, it seemed they had to rush everything to get it done in so little time. Maybe now they can make a Batman movie with fleck first to properly introduce one of the main characters for mos 2, Benny can get it done for 2015, offcourse no origin story and because it is set in the mos universe he can go all out regarding fantasy stuff, maybe make a nice set-up to mos 2.

Reshoots? How can there be reshoots if they havent started filming yet. (Yes I know they shot a quick shot at a football stadium)

wait. trying to get MOS2 out in two years is rushing it, but with MOS2 pushed back to 2016 you are suggesting that they squeeze a completely independent Batman movie in one year for 2015 and that wouldn't be rushing a film? I'm speechless and how little you thought out the premise of your post.

Well, maybe i should have posted a smiley with the headline, it was meant as a joke offcourse, because many times a movie is delayed its due to reshoots.

And to wtf, they can make a smaller batman movie within 1,5 year, i'm sure Goyer doesnt need much time to put a story together, there were good movies done in less time, just not in the scale of mos 2.
Make one where he is more of a detective and observing from the dark, maybe even tie in scenes where he is watching the devastation

Hmm. There are rumors that Affleck is considering dropping out over creative differences, and they are negotiating with him. Not because of a leg injury.

This is very good news, it shows me that DC/WB wants to take their time and make good films. Also, 2016 will officially be a bigger year for movies than 2015....which is huge.

I'm definitely bummed that Batman vs. Superman got pushed back to 2016, but I'd rather wait until 2016 for an epic movie than a mediocre movie in 2015. I'm still very excited about the film though.

Warners has been trying to put this thing together since the 90s. What makes them think they could put it together at the last minute, within the course of two years?

ok, take your time and give us a good films...

BUT I'm afraid summer 2016 will be SOOOOO packed with blockbusters, that good (as in entertaining) films will bomb, because people just won't go twice a week to theatre for 3 months or so... Simply too expensive...
Btw: the more I read it, the more I think the JLA movie should be an adaptation of the 'new 52' Justice League's first arc (with more characters development, obviously)... Now THAT would be EPIC !

I'm starting to agree that the best course is for them to just make a JLA movie instead. Split into two films, shot simultaneously and released a year apart. The first part could end with the Joker showing up at the very end or something cool like that.

I was really looking forward to this being released in 2015, but oh well...it is what it is. Now, if by some act of god, Star Wars finishes early, can they move it to Bat vs Supes old release date so it can kick the shit out of that lame ass Peter Pan reboot?

Ooh, it seems the competition was a little too stiff for BvS in 2015 to handle, eh? Y'know with the unavoidable comparions to Avengers: AoU and stuff?
So i guess the best move was to let the summer box office dust settle then make your move before the competition can recover. Interesting.

I was expecting this since day 1 of the announced project. I'm really looking forward to this but i always thought 2 years was too quick to do it right. I'm almost expecting the same thing to happen to Star Wars.

I'm very conflicted about this, because this was the number one thing in 2015 I'm looking forward to, even more than Age of Ultron, Jurassic World and Star Wars VII, but if it means more time for them to get it right, I guess it's better that they don't rush into it. If they're filming it back to back with Justice League then I guess I can wait another year. Come on DC, come on! I was really looking forward to seeing Warner/DC pull out all the stops at Comic-Con this year to top Hiddleston as

This is going to sound sad, but I was already picturing Cavill, Affleck and Gadot all in character, and the video would blow up all over the internet. I've loved the Marvel movies thus far but I'm much more a DC fan and everytime Marvel has a cool announcement I'm happy but also slightly pained. Hope this gives DC a leg up, at last.

It wasn't near either of those film's release dates, so box office competition between other franchises wouldn't have been a real threat. It could have been the script, but I'd rather they take their time with it, and if they need till 2016 to execute it properly than so be it.

They couldn't just have Morgan Freeman strap up his legs and then Affleck would suddenly be fine?
But no, the delay's no bad thing - this movie needs as much time as it needs and shouldn't be rushed. Having said that, short of a major screw up, this delay allows Marvel to consolidate their box office dominance somewhat.

This is good since they can't figure who they want to add to the movie....first Wonder Woman, then Green Latern, then talks of Aquaman. Hopefully this will allow for a better script.

Also this talk of burnt out? People can't handle 4 comic book movies a year?! Really?! Haven't you figured out that comic book movies have replaced action movies? If you can't handle four action movies a year then don't go to the movies. Over here burning out from 4 movies a year.

I hate to sound like a grump and a naysayer, but boy, am I ever getting sick of all these superhero movies. I'm a huge comic geek and I love most of the movies that come out, even Iron Man 3... I think what I'm REALLY sick of is franchises being planned out years in advance, before the first sequel is even out. It's like, come on, guys, Spider Man 3? You haven't even let me judge the second one yet! It's fatiguing.
In addition, I'm also someone who hated Man of Steel (I'm sorry) and I am

The injury may be a good excuse, now they don't have to rush anything, they can do the back to back shooting for Justice League too.
Really weakens summer 2015 though while Avengers 2 is still there at one time Star Wars VII was set there too, now with this change Avengers may wipe out everything.

Hell Yes! Glad it got pushed back. Take your time w/ this, Warner Bros.

All the time you need. See, I'm a pretty big supporter of last years "MOS" (yes! destruction & all) & the casting of Affleck. So all this delay can do is give the filmmakers more time to get a proper vision for 1 of the most anticipated team-up's in movie history.

Hey, the same thing happened to "The Avengers" & "Star Trek Into Darkness". Both pushed back about 10-11 months from it's original announced release date.

this movie is just going to end up being...

Justice League. at this point, when is that coming out, 2018? Will anyone really give a crap at that point, they'll be burnt out from the 40 Marvel movies that came in that time. They announce new characters everyday, why even bother doing Batman vs Superman at this point?

I'm fine with it just make it good so if this extra time is needed than that's alright. Could this possibly lend credence to the rumor of this movie and a Justice League movie being shot back to back? Apparently a Marvel movie will be released that date as well I wonder who will blink first.

I feel this is for the best. Everything about the movie so far seemed like a knee jerk response to catch-up to Marvel's Avengers formula and make up for Man of Steel falling short (it did ok in box office, but not what the studio hoped). Heck before Man of Steel the studio wasn't sure if they would do a solo superman sequel, or a team-up. And then they were trying to get Bale back, thankfully he declined. I don't know who is running things for this movie, every decision seems like it is getting

I don't know who is running things for this movie, every decision seems like it is getting made by a committee rather than a director with vision (no offense to Snyder). DC would be wise to use this time and set-up a decent plan of films going forward. I think filming back-to-back might be a good idea, and something different from the MCU.

The real question is, will Affleck still be Batman? He had several projects in the pipeline to shoot after BvS. Will he choose those that he was to direct or focus soley on one character for years?
