Batman vs. Water

11.05.2007
I'm always the first to laugh at Aquaman but it looks like for once he might have one over ol' Batman. CNN is reporting that the water quality at Hong Kong's iconic harbor 'could pose a potential health risk'. Apparently, there was to be a scene where Bats would drop into the water and then scale some bamboo, but "when they checked a water sample, they found all sorts of things; salmonella and tuberculosis, so it was canceled. Now the action will cut to inside a building." 'Could' pose a problem?! Salmonella and tuberculosis are no joke! Well it sucks that we aren't going to get everything that was planned, but I'd like to think that I can do without Bats jumping out of something into water, and I saw Jackie Chan climb bamboo in the second RUSH HOUR, it wasn't all that. The report goes on to state that Hong Kong's harbor has long been polluted by industrial and residential sewage, and swimming is not recommended, no I definitely would not recommend swimming there! So there you go, schmoes, not only is JoBlo.com bringing you the latest in film news, it's also potentially saving your life!
Extra Tidbit: I guess two THE DARK KNIGHT articles in one day is the payoff for having to repeatedly report on the SEX AND THE CITY movie.

Oh well, guess he won't have a chance to pull out his Shark Repellent Bat Spray in this one...

C'mon, people! "Bats", as in a nickname for Batman. Capital "B".

Who cares about the specifics anyway? You want to spoil the movie this early in the game? What we should be worrying about is the sh*t that China's leaking into their water. Not to mention the cloud of pollution they've got that affects the weather halfway across the globe.

Batman's gonna need a SARS mask.

can bats even swim?

I wasn't going to comment on this one but I have to give my support for a scene with a swarm of bats diving into a harbor then crawling out on bamboo chutes.

It doesn't even have to be bamboo, just sticks or logs...even rope. I can't think of a single film that features a large group of bats swooping into a body of water, suddenly realizing they're bats and they aren't supposed to be in the water, then climbing out with those little wing claws. THAT would be an original scene...stupid but

Umm... that's "Bats" as in Batman. They weren't going to have a swarm of bats diving into the harbor.

I'm thinking it may be another flashback scene. Is there any news on if they're bring back the flashbacks?

who knows, maybe this was for the better. I mean a scene where a bunch of bats dive down into the water and scale bamboo souns rediculously cheesy to me. Maybe the cinema gods thought that scene had to be cut.

Holy breathing disorder, Batman!

He doesn't have any Anti Salmonella Spray in that utility belt of his? No Tuberculosis pills given to him by Alfred?

Seriously, wow.
To have water that badly polluted is just amazing. Could've filmed the same scene in the East River and all he might've caught was the sniffles.

And the Clap.

But that's speculative.

Water's not cold enough for the sniffles...

I just assumed they meant they we're going to shoot the special effect in some huge indoor stage, thats no good that they're changing the action. What would Batman be doing falling into a body of water anyways does the joker kidnap him and have him flown halfway across the world and dropped into a body of water relying on nothing but his street smarts to get him back unless someone recognizes him as the millionaire he is? No, we've seen that before. Interesting stuff though I wonder if Nolan

Interesting stuff though I wonder if Nolan and company (who are so well hiding the meat of the plot) get mad when something like this makes news, I guess it couldn't be THAT important though if they're switching it up.

More than makes up for Sex and the City!

C'mon! How can you cover something as trashy and a complete waste of time as Sex and the City?? Chick flicks? You guys can do better than that! I'm not against chick flicks, but if you're going to cover the genre, cover something with more integrity! Sex and the City is not something I'd respect! I'd like to think you guys at Joblo are more respectable than that!
