Bay doubles up

Jul. 4, 2007by:
It gives me great pleasure to say that this might be my very last TRANSFORMERS related article...for a week, until talk of the sequel begins. I haven't seen the movie yet, but you can be sure that when I do (this Thursday) I'll be sneaking a quartet of tall cans into the theater and tying on a sweet little buzz. Point of the story is, the folks over at /Film.com have done a little detective work and uncovered that Michael Bay has apparently reused footage from PEARL HARBOR for TRANSFORMERS. The top still is taken from a hi-res TRANSFORMERS trailer, and the bottom still from a print of PEARL HARBOR. Other than the colours and saturation you can see some fighter jets were added in the top picture, you know, to modernize it. No problem with this, though. It's Bay's footage and it's reasons like this that the movie only cost $150 million, compared to double that for AT WORLD'S END.

Extra Tidbit: Bay has been nominates several times, but has never won a Razzie award

This ain't the first time.

Bay used the same aerial shot of the White House in The Rock and Armageddon, maybe another movie too but I'm not sure. Also, in Transformers, he used a shot twice as well. In the beginning, the shot of the hologrammed chopper pilot was used again when all of the Decepticons were assembling for battle near the end.

Bwahaha

Guys, guys, guys...

What he actually did was restored the carrier footage to it's original state.

The carrier shot was one of the few things that irked me during the historical aspects of Pearl Harbor - the carrier was just too modern. Carriers looked quite a bit different in the 1940s then they do now. The superstructure is shaped different, etc.

All Bay did was return the jet fighters to where they were in the beginning.

dont change review

Yeah, why was Thoo's review put in place? I'd also like to add that people should stop bitching about Bay's editing in action scenes. I thought about that during Tformers and there are only a few scenes too close or the explosions/fire get in the way of the action. Most are very clear and easy to see whats going on, I don't get it when people say Bay's action is bad. That's like saying Birthday Cake tastes like poop. It just doesn't add up people!

Also, this article reminds me of some Rotten

Also, this article reminds me of some Rotten Tomatoes article about the actors in Tformers learning to remember their lines with explosions around them. Like who cares? Did the studio put you up to this? Stock footage is pretty common, so is explosions in action scenes, yet here we are.

Who Cares?

Why does this choice need defending? Lots of movies use stock footage for insert shots, and that's all this was.

I noticed Alcoholic Zombie.

Thoo's review reads better. Jimmy O's review was okay, but read more like compiled footnotes than an actual review.

CONCERNING TRANSFORMERS REVIEW

Anyone else notice they posted another review from James Thoo replacing the one from Jimmy O? No offense but I like the feedback better from Jimmy and that one need to be reposted again. Transformers will always be a 9 out of 10 in my book!

Also, That damn JJ Abrams trailer totally sucker punched me when I saw it before Transformers. Jesus Christ.

Also, good compromise is to post both reviews separately to hear feedback from multiple pov. Thanks!

The sad thing is that Pearl Harbor was a much better movie. I went in expecting a half decent Michael Bay film. It was terrible.

nice update, no harm

he not only added the jets, but he modernized the whole carrier. I think when something like this can be done without being obvious (that means you Star Trek 6) then do it everytime.
