Beals Joins Eli

Gary Oldman has a sexual prize and thy name is Beals, Jennifer Beals. The FLASHDANCE star will make her return to the big screen in the Hughes Brothers-directed THE BOOK OF ELI, starring Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis and the aforementioned Oldman. The meaning of "sexual prize" is unclear, but that's how her role is being described. And with Gary Oldman involved, I can only assume that she will be subjected to awful, awful things. Or at least I hope so.

THE BOOK OF ELI follows Denzel as he fights his way across the wasteland of a near-future America to protect a sacred book that might hold the key to saving humanity. It feels like I've been writing stories about this project forever so I'm glad to learn that principal photography begins next month in New Mexico. Jennifer Beals beware.
Extra Tidbit: Beals' character is also blind. Just the way Oldman likes em, that sicko.

luke319; Give Beals a chance. Aside from the fact the it's great physical casting (Beals looks like she could be the mother of Mila Kunis), she's also grown into a pretty fantastic actress over the years. I know she used to be the JEssica Alba of her day (hired mainly for her hotness), but she's been on a TV show called THE L-WORD for the past 5 years (an interesting show about the LA lesbian community), and frankly, Beals shows acting skills she was never allowed to develop in shallow 1980's

Beals actually has gravitas and emoional weight these days. She was also pretty good in the film ROGER DODGER. Anyway, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by Beals. The woman is a very fine actress these days.

Beals is good casting

Not EVERY man who can is interested in the youngest tidbit he can get. Oldman's character is interested in something far more seductive to him: POWER. One of the reasons for Beal's casting in this film, I would imagine, is that she looks very much like she could be the mother of Mila Kunis's character. Interesting casting, I think.

Well, good for Jennifer I guess, although to be honest there's probably about thirty other actresses who aren't has-beens who I would've rathere seen in this high-profile of a project instead. I mean I realize Downey and Rourke have inspired everybody to try for comebacks, but even then there are actresses who I feel are more deserving than Beals.

Also, if you're some kind of fanatic like Oldman's character in the film and you decide to take a prize why not pick somebody younger? I mean

I mean sure, I realize Beals and Oldman are about the same age, but if you're the type of derranged character Oldman's playing why not take a 25 year old? Why not take Mary Elizabeth Winstead or Megan Fox or something?
