Beattie talks War

Gears of War Red hot scribe Stuart Beattie is currently hard at work adapting XBox 360 game "Gears of War" to the big screen and he recently took some time out of his undoubtedly extremely busy schedule to discuss the film with the folks over at "Game Pro". Here's a little of what he had to say:

Everyone's talking about 300. They use it as an example of where things are headed. That film was shot completely on green screen, which is amazing when you actually see the film. It's probably how we're going to do Gears of War.

There's no way to build that world any other way, really. That's a huge world. It's a planet and it's a bubble and it's a building. It's an epic sci-fi war and an enormous film. To get it made at all, the only way to make it for a price is to be on a soundstage. But the game also has that look, which is really interesting, so I think it will dovetail really nicely.

Not surprising but at least they're aiming for something big and flashy, which is good or bad, depending on your tolerance for mindless blockbuster entertainment. The story follows battle hardened ex-prisoner Marcus Fenix as he attempts to save the human inhabitants of a planet called Sera from the unrelenting bloodlust of an underground race of monsters called the Locust Horde.

Beattie had quite a bit more to say on the film, which you can check out over HERE. Unless it plummets into production hell, we should be seeing Fenix kick some subterranean monster ass in 2009. Thanks to Rojira for the heads up!

Extra Tidbit: The game's slated to hit PC's on November 6th. Additional tidbit: Veteran voice actor John Di Maggio, who voices Fenix, is also the voice of Bender on "Futurama".
