While casino gambling and the like has been explored plenty in the world of cinema, I think it is safe to say that the world of online gambling has gone fairly untouched.  But that looks to change with an original script called RUNNER RUNNER that has scored Brad Furman (THE LINCOLN LAWYER) to direct and Ben Affleck to star alongside Justin Timberlake.

All we know about the script thus far is that it is by Brian Koppelman and David Levien (OCEAN'S 13, ROUNDERS) and "set in the world of illegal online gambling."  Which, admittedly, isn't much to go on.  But considering the interest of Timberlake and Affleck and how they could have their pick of just about any project they wanted, there must be something more to RUNNER RUNNER than meets the eye.

It takes a special kind of directorial skill to find build the tension and stakes high enough such that watching some dudes sit around and gamble in a feature film is interesting - do you think Furman can do it?

Extra Tidbit: Affleck has definitely built himself back up in my acting estimation with his turns in STATE OF PLAY and THE TOWN - what about you?

god dammit

I was all like 'hell yeah Ben Affleck, I'm in!' and then of course, I saw Justin Timberlake.

Now don't get me wrong, JT's talented, but I just don't find him very likable or believable as an actor... it just always, always seems like Justin Timberlake and it not only makes me care less for the character but most often the movie as well unfortunately...

The roles Timberlake is getting/selecting are interesting at least. He's developing a keen eye for scripts and Affleck has been flawless for a while now, so I'm feeling confident about this.

p.s. at what point will people take Timberlake seriously as an actor? I've come to accept him, strange as it feels.

Sounds like a digital age Rounders, bring it on.

I always liked Affleck, sure he's not the world's greatest actor but I think he's got plenty of charisma to make up for what he lacks in that department.

I'd be more worried about Timberlake who seems to be able to hold his own but doesn't do anything more than that.
