One of the big rumors that's been circulating around Warner Bros. and their creation of a DC Cinematic Universe has been that Ben Affleck is one day going to get behind the camera while donning the Batman cowl and direct a new solo Dark Knight film. Warner Bros. has announced DC films and their respective dates for the next several years, but a Batman movie has yet to be part of the equation to this point. A new interview with William Morris Endeavor's co-CEOs Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell may shed some light on why, given Affleck's contractual commitment to the future of the character.

He's contracted to do at least JUSTICE LEAGUE ONE and TWO, so at least three times wearing the cape… There's a script that he's written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that's out there as an option.

So right now, with BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE already on the books, Affleck is confirmed to only be signed for three instances where he's playing Batman full-force. Now, there must be options in there for him to reprise the role in other roles, given that we know he'll be making an appearance, even if only very slight in SUICIDE SQUAD. But beyond that, Warner Bros. would appear to not have Affleck locked down and secured for an individual Batman film.

There would appear to be development on a Batman movie, with Affleck having handled the writing, and, if it all comes together, you can bet Warner Bros. would jump on the prospect of Affleck helming his own idea. But at this moment, that would appear to be less than the certainty you imagined it'd be before you started reading this article.
