Ben Affleck takes on more Justice League responsibility

05.06.2016

batman v superman: dawn of justice, batman, bruce wayne, ben affleck, dc cinematic universe

Warner Bros. is adding another cook to the kitchen when it comes to JUSTICE LEAGUE, a clear sign they are trying to throw whatever they can at the problems created by BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE in order to save the DC Cinematic Universe's future at such an early stage.

Ben Affleck is set to take on more responsibility for the DC team-up film, adding executive producer for the film to his list of duties, alongside being Batman. In such a role, Affleck would be a part of the JUSTICE LEAGUE brain trust, with Zack Snyder and writer Chris Terrio, giving him further skin in the game to turn out the best movie they possibly can.

Word is that Warner Bros. was absolutely blindsided by the negative reactions BATMAN V SUPERMAN set off, genuinely believing they had a crowd-pleaser on their hands that everyone would embrace. When that didn't happen, they were caught off-guard on what to do next, especially with JUSTICE LEAGUE ready to go right into production upon DAWN OF JUSTICE's release. That gave them no room to doctor the script any more or consider a change at director or anything of the sorts... and now they are trying to alter things on the fly during production and then perhaps later in post and with reshoots that could right the ship before this shared universe starts taking on heavy amounts of water.

At this point, it's too early to know what course JUSTICE LEAGUE will take, and if there will be any major changes to the characters of the tone of the film to make it more appealing to mainstream audiences. However, even with the big box office number BATMAN V SUPERMAN pulled in globally at the box office ($864 million and counting), that amount is well below what Warner Bros. expected, and more Affleck is the first change they are willing to make in order to stop that from happening again.

JUSTICE LEAGUE - PART ONE is on the calendar for a November 17, 2017 release.

Not sure why it's too late to change directors. Lots of productions have had directors exit at the 11th hour, they scramble to find a replacement, and still pull off a great movie (i.e. Ant-Man). I'm not saying Affleck should be made director, but certainly there is someone more competent than Snyder to start steering this ship. It's too bad they had that abysmal introduction to the JL in BvS as now there's no way to course-correct that part of the DCEU. Personally, I think WB/DC should

Personally, I think WB/DC should take what they have and start molding it into a replica of the MCU. Push the release of the JL movies. Focus on the solo outings of the other heroes first and have each film lead up to the JL movie. I know it makes the DCEU too similar to the MCU. But at this point, simpler is easier (and smarter).

If you keep having Snyder steer the ship, you'll keep having movies like this. It must be agonizing for Affleck, clearly a better director, be told what to do from Snyder.

What DC needs to do

For starters bench batman. Work on stand alone films. The way BvS shoehorned in the other JL heroes was lazy. An email really? Unless you're a fan No one cares about these characters. I'm personally not excited about their next film. Let's get a dark horror version of swamp thing.

deja vu

Remember when this EXACT same thing happened when they gave Nolan executive producer credit (which Nolan now claims that he really wasn't involved with)? Then this exact same thing happend again when they brought in Oscar winning writer Chris Terrio, and everyone was like "YES! No more Goyer, Terrio is going to make the film great!". They are already filmming The Justice League, so it's not like Affleck is going to change much, WB is just using his name to sell the movie.

Get-rich-quick schemes that operate completely on the Internet typically promote “secret formulas” to affiliate marketing and affiliate advertising. The scheme will usually claim that it requires no special IT or marketing skills and will provide an unrealistic timeframe in which the consumer could make hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars.

Schemes of this nature usually have catchy titles and images associated with wealth and luxury to encourage potential victims into paying signing up fees which can range from several dollars to thousands of dollars. The get-rich-quick scheme will heavily imply that the consumer will be able to earn much more than this small investment when they apply the special, secret techniques revealed in their training material they will send. Such training material is typically in the form of e-books or training CDs.

These schemes rarely work since the material sent to victims is frequently just basic or intermediate marketing material that is neither secret nor a guarantee to making a lot of money online. Often, the initial materials include heavy promotion of expensive seminars or classes, with the implication that not purchasing these items means the reader isn't "serious" or "ready to make money". Sometimes buying the materials subscribes the purchaser to a newsletter (or other communication) whose cost is automatically deducted from the bank account used to make the purchase each month; typically this condition is buried in the fine print, and cancelling the subscription is extremely difficult.

Get-rich-schemes of this nature habitually share the same warning indicators that include, but are not limited to:

They will imply that anyone signing up will become rich within months to a year.
They will tell potential victims that the route to success is by following “secret formulas” that no one else knows about.
They will often claim they have been seen on various websites such as Google and YouTube, causing the viewer to assume said websites endorse the product.
They will use pressuring tactics to get the victim to sign up quickly, such as claiming that there are only a certain amount of copies of a CD left, or using special discount prices that are only available for a short amount of time.
Schemes such as this will often employ the tactic of displaying testimonials from “previous users.”
When trying to navigate away from their website, users are often presented with popup windows offering further discounts, in an attempt to make the user feel special.
Another indicator is the way the schemes are advertised. Many schemes will post so-called “success stories” on post-your-own-article websites.

Schemes like this will also be advertised through serial promoters. Serial promoters are individuals who are not directly affiliated with a given scheme, but will promote from one to the next almost every day. In return the owner of the scheme may do the same for them, or if the get-rich-scheme is a Ponzi scheme, the serial promoters will be invited to join early in order for them to make money from new recruits.

An example of such products include the infamous Google scams, where the scheme will imply that viewers can make an income from home using affiliate advertising with Google, or simply posting links. These schemes have various titles and will trick the user into thinking they are endorsed or affiliated with Google Inc. through improper use of trademarks and logos.

Other popular online get-rich-quick schemes can include survey taking, whereby a user would complete surveys of varying subjects and get paid for the time. Get-rich-quick schemes take advantage of this and often promise that users can make a good income from doing this, which is not the case. Individuals who partake in survey taking can expect small profits that can supplement another full-time income.

A different tack is taken by online "Clairvoyants" who offer to untangle psychic or ethereal blocks to wealth, for a one off or ongoing fee. Each has a different pitch but buying lucky talismans, obtaining lucky numbers for lotteries, or performing wealth attracting rituals often feature. Several such "Mystics" under different aliases operate from Rambouillet near Paris.

The legality of such schemes is often a matter of extreme controversy. These online get-rich-quick schemes cannot be described as illegal outright scams since the majority do send an end product to the user, but they do employ severely misleading sales tactics in order to get victims to sign up. Users should always be aware when signing up for schemes online that promise to show the route to financial freedom, especially if there is an initial investment to be made.

Often online get-rich-quick schemes use a bait and switch strategy which invites you to view a particular offer (the bait) and then show you a completely different and frequently inferior product (the switch).

first off...I don't really think they saw all the bad reviews, and THEN were surprised at the backlash. The backlash would be including the press screenings. They fully expected this movie to be awesome before reviews. At least, that is how WB came out publicly. Maybe I missed the interviews where WB execs came out and proclaimed that all the reviews wouldn't effect the audience. But, I doubt it.
Secondly....they did not try and kick Snyder off JL. Where did you hear that? Nor have they tried

Now, maybe they were rethinking having Snyder in charge of of the films, but by the time the movie came out, they were weeks away from filming. Way too late in the game to pull a change like that, on a film of this magnitude.

Adding Affleck should be a good move, but I remember even Nolan couldn't contain most of Zack Snyder's madness. Still I would rather see this DC movie universe continue to at least Justice League part 2 so we can finally see the end of this Darkseid saga once and for all. Anything that could make the franchise better would be most welcome.

I greatly enjoyed BVS and thought the positives outweighed the negatives in it despite the scathingly bad reviews, but I still welcome this news because I know how talented and passionate Affleck is when it comes to movies. His involvement as executive producer can only be a good thing.

First, the writer of this article should really learn to not traipse so easily into gossip and repeating Devin Faraci's crap. You're still a journalist and "word is" is pretty sloppy reporting.
Secondly, if we follow the logic of people who say "a movie that has Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman should easily best any C-list Marvel character", the. Every movie with Jesus Christ in it, who actually has like two billion "worshippers" should fill the list of the top grossing movies of all time.

Thirdly, Ben Affleck is excellent and this is good news for the franchise.

I remember saying that when i saw Empire Strikes Back for the first time, like, "Damn...why so Serious?". I was seriously bummed out for 2 year thinking "this sucks." Why is Luke so Emo...Why did they do that to Han Solo? So many questions. It was too dark. Luke screaming too much and crying. That scene with him and Darth was too mellow dramatic.....What did they do to Star Wars?!!....Then Return of the Jedi came out with Ewoks and I was like, Yes!, that's what I'm talking about! So,

So, yeah, perhaps the next Justice League...bring in the Wonder Twins to lighten the mood. You know, maybe have a Richard Pryor (like Kevin Hart) character to balance out the darkness..pull in some funny quips. Maybe bring back Jimmy Olsen as that was a dream sequence of him dying and make him Clark Kent's buddy ole pal and cracking jokes on Lois. Have Bat Mite in the Bat Cave for more comic relief. Bring in more bat villains who are more colorful, Batman needs a comic relief to deliver puns to his more straight man character...I would say a Robin or Batgirl-type character-ish. Everyone needs to smile. Have some indie band, a dub step artist, or a famous rapper on the sound track to bring in the youth and "date" the movie so we know years into the future this movie was set around 2016. Yeah.....

Don't rush it. Don't make quick decisions to try and save your franchise like adding WW, Lex, Doomsday, other JL members, combining elements of like 3 popular stories from the comics, and fighting fucking batman. Take your time and make a proper superman sequel. I imagine all franchises try to correct mistakes from the last film to an extent, but WB is waaaay too concerned with past and future films than they are with the one they are working on. They need to stop thinking about their universe, even stop production on this if they need, and focus on making this film good. Just focus on one film at a time.

WB has a potential cash cow with a DCCU, and should almost be ashamed they aren't in the ring with Marvel, 20 films in, making 2 films a year. However, I suppose the success of Nolan's Bat trilogy, and not wanting, or being able to, create a universe around that very grounded version of batman, or confuse audiences with a different batman in a George Miller film (tho it's ok to have different flashes?) is understandable. I understand not wanting to interfere in any way, wether adding a surrounding universe or creating an additional one, with Nolan's epically successful trilogy.
Which brings me to what I think is probably one of the biggest current problems with the DCCU - David Goyer somehow fucked around and got a story credit in Nolan's Bat trilogy. He has admitted that he didn't contribute much at all and was surprised he got a credit, and I think the studio kept him when Nolan was done, hoping to retain some of that quality from Nolan's trilogy, or at least be able to say "from the creators of TDK." Idk who contributed what in any of those films really, but Goyer fucking sucks. Make sure he's gone (probably Snyder too, who has made good films before. I'm not sure where the line is that allows him to be successful or encourages him to only care about CGI. Let Geoff run the show, and make sure there's a clear leader as to who is running the show. It doesn't need to be a WB suit.
Lastly, I don't think they need to jump into Darkseid yet. I know comic fans love seeing a parademon punch batman to the ground, WW, all that bat action and more on the screen, but they have fucked Superman up. Instead of jumping into Darkseid, they should go ahead and take advantage of their mistakes, attempt something Marvel hasn't done, and do some Injustice type stuff. Go ahead and have Superman a full on villain, or have the JL from another world show up as villains (like Owl Man and stuff - hire Casey Affleck). It's their chance to capitalize on their current situation, and again, go in areas that the MCU hasn't tapped into at all. Having different, evil versions of the JL (and hero versions of Joker/Lex) would be batshit amazing/insane to watch on the big screen. And when Superman is finally, for the "last time," reborn, he can actually be Superman and enjoy what he does, be whimsical, and not have his montage of saving people from disasters seem like an epic burden to him. But they really need to take their time with this one. I don't think they can afford for JL to get the same reactions as BVS and MOS, because if it does they will have to start over completely, which they should arguably already be doing, but that would waste an amazing Affleck and pretty amazing cast all around. And audiences are going to only allow studios so many resets before we turn our backs.
WB....you guys have access to 75 years of stories to take from, and a pretty great cast. Just take your time and don't rush it

I see people say well it wasn't that bad it made 800+ million. Yeah you have literally the 3 biggest heavyweight's for characters DC has all on screen at once for the first time, hell maybe the 3 biggest characters in all of comics, and it doesn't break a billion total at the box office? So get Affleck in control, boot Snyder, and rebuild properly.

Snyder can do good visuals and that's it. Goyer hasn't done good writing in years. Affleck has proven himself by winning Oscars/Golden Globes for Directing, Acting and Writing. I believe he can help make the DCU better.

There is nothing to build up. Everyone already knows who the hell Batman and Superman are. Jumping right into Justice League is perfectly fine. Its' not like we needed a stand alone film for every character in Ocean's 11 before that film came out LOL. Or The Expendables. Or any other ensemble film.

If every Transformers movie can make a billion dollars. There's no reason why a shitty or great Justice League film can't make the same amount of money.

The difference is every Transformers movie is made to appeal to kids as well as adults who want to turn their brains off. All they need to do with the Justice League film is giving us characters we can root for instead of an angsty Superman who isn't sure if he wants to save people, and angry Batman who kills people without bothering to notice, and whatever else they're getting ready to hit us with next.

The reason why JL didn't make a million? Simple....it's not out yet.

Screw the haters...Keep on Truckin'

I really wish that Warner Bros would be happier with their haul on this one and just keep moving on. The negative reviews were bogus; just whiny over dramatic nerds going off. When all is said and done this movie will top out at 900 million. Not bad for the beginning of a long series of movies. Hate on Snyder all you want, he makes testosterone filled movies for testosterone filled movie audiences. This is a polarizing movie and just happens to come out in an era where Marvel has cotton candied

This is a polarizing movie and just happens to come out in an era where Marvel has cotton candied the whole comic process with throw away villains and recycled plot lines perfect for selling slurpees and toys. DC is going more adult and it is paying off. I'm sure some snarky Marvel fan boy will jump on here and go off about how BvS was this or that, but it's positives far outweigh its negatives. I still can't wait to the see the "R" rated cut. Suicide Squad will bring some relief to WB. Screw the haters.

Lol 850,mil is an embarrassment for this movie. You have the 3 most popular comic characters ever known all, on screen for the first time ever, and it doesn't even break a billion at the box office. A group of rag tag nobodies called GOTG made almost as much as the holy trifecta of Superman Batman and Wonder Woman. Let that sink in a minute if you think 800mil is fine lol.

Be a fan of the movie. That's fine. Finally seeing stuff on the big screen for the first time ever is sweet. But dismissing it's negative reviews as bogus? That's offensively stupid. It got like a 30% on rottentomatoes. On websites like these, with non-"movie critics," the reaction is at the very least, split 50/50. That's an incredibly generous split. Then you later acknowledge the film does have negatives, just more positives. The movie did have some positives, absolutely. I don't

Then you later acknowledge the film does have negatives, just more positives. The movie did have some positives, absolutely. I don't see how someone can disagree. But is the movie good? Absolutely not.

Go look at the talkback for civil war, which is almost entirely positive (and has like the highest RT score of any comic film ever), and the negative comments usually seem like hateful, biased, ignorant DC fans with a chip on their shoulder. I don't understand that mentality. Why do these 10 ppl feel slighted? And whenever criticisms towards their films are brought up, they reply by talking shit about marvel and saying that they must love marvel. Stopping that fight Bc the greatest detective in the world, who surely knows what coincidences are, hears the name Martha is epically stupid. What does that have to do with Marvel? If I say The Force Awakens is a remake, are you going to somehow say oh then you must love marvel? If I say the bond twist was dumb, are you going to bring marvel up?

I don't know anyone who is more of a marvel or DC fan. Everyone I know likes the companies equally. But as far as films go, it's not even a competition. I mean marvel has like 3 studios making their films, and in the last 20 years, has probably made about 80 films compared to about 15 DC films. Of course the quality is all over the place from terrible to amazing, but DC is not real competition to Marvel when it comes to film. Marvel has more competition WITH ITSELF, in the Fox and Sony Marvel releases, and other Disney films.

When all is said and done, civil war will beat bvs in literally every single category, and I think MOS is a lot better than the avengers (MOS, a film without bats, the most popular comic character in the world, and WW, and lex, and a bunch of ppl, that has a higher profit than BVS). I want WB to make good films Bc I don't like one company more than another. You few die hard DC fans are so aggressive and insecure. You are really unable to see reality. You make me almost embarrassed to say I liked man of steel.

To not be able to see that bvs needed a response like civil war, the force awakens, even deadpool, has had/is having, is ridiculous. As is you not being able to clearly see the criticism isn't bogus. It's well accounted for (the majority...of adults), and legitimate if you actually know anything about film or want your film to make sense. This applies to bvs, marvel films, superhero films, all films.

Did I call it or what? Lol. Another diatribe. Show me one article where a Warner executive actually stated that they were unhappy with the haul. Also, dumb f&cks like these guys got all butt hurt and rated this movie like no stars or 3 out of 10 on rotten tomatoes. If that isn't butt hurt overdramatic nerd speech, I don't know what is. Apparently, y'all would rather watch fantastic 4 which got better reviews that BvS (undeservingly so). "WB should be ashamed of 900 million with how popular

Big babies. Snyder is doing just fine. And there's 900 million and counting in ways to prove that.

i had no problem watching this movie. Saw it 9 times. I liked it because it wasn't out to be Marvel. and i love Marvel! I like variety. And as much as I like the action, humor, light, etc., I love the dark, adult themed, action comic books. Same goes to the comic book movies as well. Warner Bros....keep on the path and be different. I love the movie where 2 heroes who are pitted by a Villain to destroy each other to the death are changed by their parents. Loved both of them....same

One fueled by the death, another saved by a life.

nows the time to slow burn the dcu.ive said it many times that releasing atleast 1 stand alone film before batman vs superman probably would have fixed a lot of the issues and I stand by that now.going right into justice league is really just selling themselves short.build it up and make a nice buzz of anticipation.give us a solo batman movie after wonderwoman and suicide squad and then give us justive league.im convinced that if they continue to rush the dcu expansion they will fail and I

I would say wait....Yes, definitely should wait. Before Justice League, they should do an origin story for each of their characters before teaming up for Justice League. so I propose Wonderwoman = 2017, Flash = 2018, Aquaman = 2019, Batman (Afleck version) = 2020, Cyborg = 2021, Lantern Corp = 2022, Martian Manhunter = 2023, The Atom = 2024, Firestorm = 2025, Green Arrow = 2026, Shazam = 2027, Hawkman = 2028, Supergirl = 2029, Booster Gold = 2030, Nightwing = 2031, Red Tornado = 2032,

and Justice League = 2036....I can wait.

He is fucking terrible. As such, he's perfect for these ill-conceived and poorly-realised DC movies.

Nah, he was terrible. But nowadays he is an all around solid actor (the best thing about Batman vs. Superman) and a great director. At this point I´ve got more trust in him than in Zack Snyder.

He's a great actor, and an even better actor. When I heard he was going to be Batman, and especially the older Dark Knight version, I was ecstatic. Then I heard he was going to direct Batman and damn I cannot fucking wait. If they ousted Snyder and made him the man in charge of the DCCU, we'd probably get some truly great stories and movies.
