Ben Schwartz fills the speedy shoes of Sonic the Hedgehog for new movie

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie has just picked up some speed by casting actor Ben Schwartz as the titular, fast-footed hero. The actor will voice the video game icon in the upcoming live-action hybrid with other stars like James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Jim Carrey as the evil Dr. Robotnik.

The actor took to Twitter to confirm Variety's exclusive about his casting, shouting his love for playing blue, 90’s characters (he also plays Leonardo on RISE OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES). “I. LOVE. 90S. BLUE. ICONIC. CHARACTERS. I am beyond excited about this movie. It’s gonna be amazing. I have been training by running, wagging my finger and impatiently tapping my foot. GOTTA GO FAST!

Along with playing Leonardo, and now Sonic, Schwartz also lends his voice to Dewey Duck on the new DUCKTALES show, and voices Rutabaga Rabitowitz on BOJACK HORSEMAN. Along with Bill Hader, he also worked on bringing dialogue and various beep noises to BB-8 for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS.  In terms of roles where you can see his face, the actor brought magic to the role of Jean-Ralphio on PARKS AND RECREATION, was on Showtime’s HOUSE OF LIES, and will appear in the upcoming NIGHT SCHOOL with Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish.

Jeff Fowler (the Oscar-winning short GOPHER BROKE) is directing the movie with a script from Patrick Casey, Josh Miller and Oren Uziel. Neal H. Moritz is producing the flick, with Toby Ascher and DEADPOOL’s Tim Miller executive producing. The movie is set to race into theaters November 15, 2019.
