Ben Stiller & Jack Black

05.10.2002

The Ben Stiller and Jack Black comedy ENVY has been given a greenlight at DreamWorks with Barry Levinson (WAG THE DOG) directing.  The film, which was originally pitched by "Seinfeld" co-creator Larry David, follows two best friends and the jealousy and acrimony that ensues when one of the men (Black) becomes extremely wealthy.  Stiller will get $10 million for his part plus a backend deal that will give him a percentage of the gross.  The project has been placed on the fasttrack by studio head Michael DeLuca and filming is scheduled to begin in July after Stiller wraps DUPLEX with Drew Barrymore.  Black previously worked with Stiller (who was directing) on THE CABLE GUY. Also mentioned in the article is Stiller's ongoing development of a STARSKY AND HUTCH movie at Warner Bros with Owen Wilson now mentioned in the Vince Vaughn role.
