Beowulf first look

07.25.2007
Flying under the radar, or are people really excited to see this film? Personally I'm slightly on the side of the former. But every time we get a new glimpse at the thing, I start getting excited again. Especially when we see pictures of Angelina Jolie and a dynamite posterior that may or may not be hers.

The Los Angeles Times had the following to say about the visuals in the film:

"His knack for a good scrap is on show in one of the film’s pivotal fight scenes when Beowulf battles Grendel in the nude, mano a beast-o. (”Bob asked if he had to be nude, but we said, ‘It’s in the poem,’ ” Gaiman explained.) So in a crafty bit of staging to allow a PG-13 rating, Beowulf’s naughty bits are obfuscated by random objects in the foreground. It’s more subtle and subdued, but shadows, swords, mead flagons and shoulders block all in a sequence not unlike the prankish cloaking device used in “Austin Powers” films."

Extra Tidbit: BEOWULF is directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Ray Winstone, Crispin Glover, Anthony Hopkins and the wonderful Angelina Jolie.
