Beowulf trailer

07.26.2007
Wow. I'm not sure what I was expecting from Robert Zemeckis' "performance capture" movie BEOWULF, but it wasn't something quite so... real.

The upcoming computer-animated movie, which should be pretty goddamn astonishing in 3-D, is a take on the old heroic poem about a warrior battling a monstrous creature called Grendel. Some of the characters seem to closely resemble their fleshy counterparts (hello, Angelina), while others such as Crispin Glover (he's the beast) and Ray Winstone (I sorta doubt his abs look like that) have been heavily modified for their part.

Either way, the technique seems to produce far more natural results than the nightmarish THE POLAR EXPRESS and should make for a fantastic moviegoing experience this November. Check out the trailer RIGHT HERE and decide for yourself!
Extra Tidbit: Before picking up the sword for 300, Gerard Butler played the legendary monster-killer in the little-seen BEOWULF & GRENDEL.

Final Fantasy (both movies) had much better CGI

But I still prefer hand drawn animation a hundred times over these stiff CGI video game cut scenes.

On the other hand, Beowulf with Christopher Lambert was really bad, so how much worse could it get.

"I have it on a good inside source that the only reason this movie was made was so an exec at Paramount, could have a nude CG model of Jolie that he could do whatever he pleased with."

I'm sure that's why...

Anyway, i think this looks great.

Quote - "Looks good but I did see a flaw in the animation. When Jolie is approaching Winstone she appears to walk right through the sword he is holding."

Dude... It's completely intentional. The sword's glow even reflects on her back.
Looks amazing in some shots and very weird in some others... Hummm...

hmmm

I'm totally indifferent 'bout this flick - The CGI doesn't really get me going - looks like the same shitty effects that's in Harry Potter.
Anyway - the music in the trailer sounds very familiar to me but can't put my finger on it... Is it the music from 28 days later??? Please give me some feed back

Looks great. It's about time we got a great Beowulf movie. So this is what it feels like to be excited for a movie that has Angelina Jolie in it...

I dunno why, but I have a bad feeling about this one. I have ever since I heard the entire project was going to be CGI. I agree with Paulie, it just doesn't seem necessary and I think it's going to end up hurting the whole thing.
I don't think its going to bomb entirely, but I can see it being another Evan Almighty. A movie that makes around $100 million but cost almost $200 million to make. It just doesn't look real enough to attract the masses of adults who usually go to fantasy or action

But hey, I hope I'm wrong, because I think Zemeckis is a fantastic director and the cast is balls.

Why isn't Zemeckis using real actors, instead of CG characters that looks like the actors? I don't think CGI should be used unless it's necessary.

HOLY SHIT!

That is some of the most incredible CG I have ever witnessed! The same team that brought us Polar Express, I assume? I will be there for that!
