Better Call Saul will feature living and dead Breaking Bad characters

07.01.2014

Ever since the BREAKING BAD spin-off BETTER CALL SAUL was announced, creator Vince Gilligan has teased the possibility of seeing some favorite characters pop-up in the prequel. But, now there may even be a chance of seeing Heisenberg himself appear on the series. For those of you who have finished BREAKING BAD, you may be asking how Walter White (Bryan Cranston) could reprise his drug kingpin character. It may be because BETTER CALL SAUL is not just a prequel.

Executive producer Peter Gould told The New York Daily News that BETTER CALL SAUL will not be confined to events prior to BREAKING BAD and will jump through multiple timelines to tell the stories involving Saul Goodman.

“One of the great things about having a timeline which is flexible is that perhaps some of it takes place before Breaking Bad, during Breaking Bad, and after Breaking Bad. That gives us the ability to bring back characters that were killed on Breaking Bad.”

While I think the goal of BETTER CALL SAUL will be to not rely on stunt casting by bringing back Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul too often, the character of Saul Goodman is intrinsically linked to the events of BREAKING BAD so these would be vital moments that could alter who the snarky lawyer is as a human being.

AMC already has a great deal of confidence in the series having already greenlit a second season to air in 2016. BETTER CALL SAUL will debut in early 2015.

Wow, I was just talking about this with friends the other day and I'm glad they are going with that format despite my early skepticism. This will not hinder Breaking Bad's legacy. It will most likely give the show some storytelling opportunities without relying on past success. I have absolute confidence in both Gould and Gilligan. Bring it on!

Fuck that!

Don't do anything to tarnish Breaking Bad's legacy, over a small insignificant cameo. Walt's tory is done. Leave it that way.

hank?

id like too see hank back its a character that could work pretty well on the show. plus its a fairly legit way to get walt on screen for more than a cameo.

If we were to get a Walt cameo I would want it to be simple like Saul going through a store or something and he passes a row where Walt and Skyler are shopping and she is clearly calling the shots and him being just the wallflower that he is but when she is not looking getting the stuff he wants.
