Bill Murray to appear in Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot

08.10.2015

Ghostbusters Paul Feig Bill Murray Banner

Bill Murray was seen on Friday making his way to the GHOSTBUSTERS set in Boston, and THR has confirmed that the actor will appear in the reboot from director Paul Feig. The site doesn't have any details on how much screen time he'll have or if he will be reprising his Dr. Peter Venkman role, but Murray is more than likely just shooting a cameo for the film.

This news isn't sitting well with hardcore GHOSTBUSTERS fans, who already weren't too happy with the plans for the movie. For decades, Bill Murray has been saying no to a third installment, so some fans are more than a little annoyed (and have been acting like Murray killed their pets) that he will have a cameo in the reboot. Personally, his involvement doesn't change my opinion on him or the upcoming film. I'm not too high on the movie, however I'm still going to give it a chance, and to me, this just sounds like Murray being, well, Murray.

I know you guys all have something to say, so let's hear it: what are your thoughts on Bill Murray reportedly cameoing in the GHOSTBUSTERS reboot?

GHOSTBUSTERS is set to open on July 22, 2016.

Weak attempt at generating some positive buzz.

Unless his cameo is at the end of the film where he walks in and says you ladies sure made a shit mess of things we will take over from here and in walks behind him Ray, Winston, and Louis, then Venkman says Oscar you can stick around as long as you get your mom Dana on the line, in which Hemsworth picks up the phone and starts dialing, I don't care.

Murray can (and will) do whatever he wants. As much we all love the original Ghostbusters, and Murray was one of the main reasons GBs3 didn't happen, that ship has sailed. Seems unlikely any new film will come close to the original, but the concept has enough potential for a few reworkings. Maybe we'll get a decent interpretation eventually.

I want this film to bomb more than fantastic four did. Then maybe the studio will wise up and create a film fans are interested in seeing.

Didn't this whole idea of an all female Ghostbusters reboot come from Bill Murray in the first place?

Haha

This is effing hilarious, slap in the face my ass. The GB 3 people seem to want would not have been any good, mildly amusing and nostalgic at best. At least they are trying something different. I haven't really been on board for the new one but in all honesty I bet it wouldn't be too far fetched to think it'll actually turn out okay. Just the optimist in me is all.

Bill doing a cameo is damn funny though, Dan is probably so pissed though haha!

I'm not angry, it's just a little sad and quite a SLAP in the face to so many people including and especially his late friend Harold Ramis, Dan Ackroyd who invested so much time and energy on a 3rd film, Ernie Hudson who is an outstanding actor and could have used the exposure as well as the paycheck (not everyone is a millionaire like you Bill), and last but not least the fans.

Some Murray is better than no Murray

So yeah, looking forward to this movie, I'm gonna give it a chance, why the hell not, I'm dying for some more ghostbusters..the question is can they recapture that magic that the first films had?

Fuck you Bill

He spends 20 years saying no to a sequel and then after we lose Ramis he agrees to do this? The man is dead to me

Despite my disapproval of this reboot, Murray's cameo has no bearing on anything.

So Bill Murray has a cameo, BIG DEAL! He probably would've ended having at least a cameo in a Ghostbusters III film. Some of you are going to let one Bill Murray cameo have you up in arms about this or even question your love for this guy???? Shame.

Changes Nothing - Just play the video game

All the studio did was throw a ton of money at Bill as they can smell the failure on this reboot. They expect us to change our minds now that Bill is in the film...probably for a cameo about 6 seconds long. Instead of going to see this movie, I suggest you play "Ghostbusters The Video Game (2009)"; or replay it like I did last week. Its essentially part 3 and its awesome! Aykroyd and Ramis wrote the story and all the original cast did the voice acting. And now that Ramis is gone its all we

BILL MURRAY did say....

once upon a time he did state that he'd come back only if they turned him into a ghost... remember that?
now i'm not speculating that's what will happen (its a cameo folks) this is, as the article states, Murray being Murray.
and besides, (Listen to the immortal words of Stan "the Man" LEE) a "cameo" is quite different from shooting an entire movie, Murray's been in Cameo mode for a while.... since Zombieland I imagine.
Also maybe Aykroyd and Reitman should have filmed a part three without

Also maybe Aykroyd and Reitman should have filmed a part three without Murray and eventually he would have joined on as a cameo... I think it sounds like he was waiting for something real to materialize from "the boys" and we got a third sequel video game instead of a movie...

I agree with everything you say and I also dig your positive attitude about the whole situation. Im not super fanboy stoked for this film but there are too many negative Nancies in here thinking they know how a proper gb movie should work. Most of them will probably eat it up and love it next year when it comes out, mark my words haha.

And the ghost cameo would be incredible, I have always liked that idea.

After all these years you've decided to be in this reboot? After all these years that Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis tried to make Ghostbusters 3 happen and you didn't even give a damn about, Mr. Murray? Nice move, man.

I suppose you're right but it doesn't make any sense that he would appear in any live action Ghostbusters movie when he was so adamant in the past not to appear in one. Guess the paycheck is very big.

Bill Murray loved making Ghostbusters, he did not enjoy making Ghostbusters II saying that his heart just wasn't in the project, acknowledging that making the sequel was no where near as much fun and that he knew the finished sequel would not live up to the fun of the original.
Ghostbusters does not need at Part III or a reboot. If Bill Murray avoided making a Ghostbusters III to not rid him of the enjoy he had making one really fun Ghostbusters film, then Murray is not the bad guy.

Murray actually has been really supportive of this reboot from the beginning, and when he heard that they were making it all female he made a wish list that contained two of the four actresses eventually cast.

I like Bill Murray. He's one of my favorite actors but I still don't think it's a nice move. If he wants to be in a new Ghostbusters movie even just a cameo, he could have said yes to Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis years ago.

Why would anyone be shocked by this. The entire reason this idea was even conceived is because Murray was talking about what a great idea an all-female Ghostbusters would be. He was saying it throughout all of his press interviews for St. Vincent during TIFF. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long for news of a Bill Murray cameo to make the news.

Not sure why everyone is hating on this so much. Regardless of whether it's good or not, it doesn't erase the original Ghostbusters movie

The reasons fans are mad is because it COULD still be part of the original Ghostbusters universe. I'm fine with an all female cast, so long as they aren't replicating the original 4 in female form. At the same time, I'm no Melissa McCarthy fan, Wig I am happy about and honestly I haven't watched Saturday Night Live in decades so I cannot comment the other 2 ladies.
My biggest beef with this film is that it erases the original films instead of building up on it, like the video game did, built

My biggest beef with this film is that it erases the original films instead of building up on it, like the video game did, built on the story and myths. We now know the origins of the Library Lady ghost from the first movie. That's fuckin fun shit right there.
Cameo rumours say cab driver, or random [insert actor here] role. Boring. Having the main 3 as mentors not only solidifies the franchise and ties to the originals, but for fans like me, that's exciting.

I hope it turns out to be a great film and doesn't fail, and I will give it a fair chance, but so far I am very unimpressed with how it sounds.
People forget that fans keep theses things alive, not random movie goers. Without fans, Ghostbusters would just have been a memory. Same goes with comic films. Fans keep those alive. SDCC is built because of fans. Without us, those classics could have been forgettable.
Don't discount us just because we want to see something we love and supported turned into something it doesn't have to be.
Again, I will give this movie a fair chance, and I honestly hope we are surprised with their cameo roles as the actual Ghostbusters and not random roles, but we have valid reasons to be concerned. Look at Fantastic Four. I was gonna give it a chance, but every review is awful. All because they did not respect the property.
