Bill Nye & Netflix are teaming up to save the world
Imagine seeing the silhouette of a man walking out from a plume of smoke with a determined stride, the lapels of his suit blowing in the wind. Then his face emerges, with his steely-eyed determination and magnificent bowtie sending the world a message: I am here to save you all. That man is Bill Nye, and he is here to do just that with his new Netflix show, BILL NYE SAVES THE WORLD.
That’s right, news is The Science Guy is returning to TV with a new Netflix show that will debut in the spring of 2017 (via Collider). But gone will be the childish whims of this famous 90’s show, BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY, and in its place a talk show that will focus on fighting anti-scientific rhetoric with cold hard facts, experimentation and guest interviews. Basically, Nye is going to bring down the house with his science. Here are his words on the matter:
“Since the start of the Science Guy show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science. Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.”
This show is coming during what some may call a modern scientific enlightenment. Videos are constantly popping up online of people playing around with DIY science experiments, citizens everywhere are fighting to get politicians to pass climate change legislation, and scientists like Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson are practically rock stars. Much like with Tyson’s COSMOS in 2014, Nye’s show looks to educate the modern audience about science. At the very least, Nye's pressence, intellect and charm will make for an immensely entertaining series that will hopefully inspire the future generation of scientists. Welcome back, Mr. Nye, it's time to suit up.
