Billy Bob Thornton comes back for more drunken holiday animosity in Bad Santa 2?

Mar. 18, 2011by: Dave Davis

The raunchy 2003 comedy BAD SANTA has become a non-traditional holiday favorite over the past several years, and star Billy Bob Thornton has previously expressed interest in reprising the role of a booze-soaked mall Santa.

Looks like he was serious about slipping into the red suit again -- the Weinstein Co. and Miramax are currently having official discussions with the actor for BAD SANTA 2.

"We feel that it’s a Christmas perennial for the R-rated crowd," a Weinstein Co. human told TheWrap. "Everyone loves the character and Billy Bob’s excited to be in talks with us."

The original movie featured Thornton as a cranky alcoholic crook who uses the guise of department store Claus to scope out heists, until an underhanded mall detective, an angry partner, a sexy bartender and a chubby outcast kid complicate matters.

No word yet on whether director Terry Zwigoff, producers Joel and Ethan Coen, or any of the original stars (except Bernie Mac or John Ritter, unfortunately) will be involved with the sequel.

Extra Tidbit: I usually also have THE REF, BLACK CHRISTMAS, LETHAL WEAPON and (of course) DIE HARD on my Christmas season viewing list, what about you?

Technically Bernie Mac couldn't be in this one, his character didn't make it. Sounds like it could be a great film if they get Zwigoff back again.

I'm up for Bad Santa 2. I don't think Lauren Graham or the kid who played Herman Merman (hahahahaha what a name!) should be in it unless it is a cameo. It would just make it the same as the original with them having starring roles.
But no matter what, I will be seeing this if it comes to light

I'm iffy on this. I love this movie and think it works better than a stand alone movie.

A sequel could be good, but ONLY if everyone came back (except for the obvious).

The original always makes me laugh, especially around x-mas time. All they have to do is move him to another mall, and it can start all over again! I'd definatly pay to see it.

Well, it's not like Billy Bob has anything else going on, so he might as well retread on a movie that people know he starred in that actually made money.

Extra Tidbit: Christmas Vacation, Better Off Dead and Gremlins.

he was head of security but whatever...seems people don't like the fact i doubt a sequel will be as good as the original, i'd love to be proven wrong but history suggests otherwise.

everyone?

from what i can remember about this movie the only real one that is free and roaming is billybob, marcus and his wife went to jail, bernie mac's character is dearly departed, and john ritter is sadly gone. those are the real main deal I mean there's the kid, and the grandmother but i think they won't really be a big thing. in the end i think all that is really on the plate is billy bob and thats all i need to green light another outing

extra tidbit
muppet christmas carol, plains trains and

I'm down for this! RIP John Ritter & Bernie Mac. Hopefully they can get as many of the other cast members back as possible. Lauren Graham always cracked me up in this movie.

Extra tidbit: Batman Returns, Die Hard 1&2, Scrooged, Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Home Alone 1&2, Gremlins, Ghostbusters 2 (even though it's more of a New Year's movie), Bad Santa, and a few others.

Bad Santa is one of the best comedies ever made. There, I said it. It is impossible not to laugh at that character and his antics.

Guys I love "Bad Santa" as much as the next person, but do we really think a sequel is a good idea?

Mild Spoiler:

I don't really see what they could do with this. I love Bad Santa but he found redemption in the end (to a point) so does he slip back into his old ways once more? Guess we'll see, I'd like to be surprised and I love Thornton.
