Bin Laden returns from the watery grave as Osombie in this trailer and poster

02.10.2012

There's something about a well-made "cheap" film that gets me kind of excited. I think most super schmoes dig all types of films and OSOMBIE looks to have a special spot in my "cheesy fun" category. It's not high art and we know this, but it looks like a great blend of silliness and shlock, enough to down some drinks and have a good ol' fashioned "Mystery Science Theater" evening with.

Check out this crazy shit:

There's something to be said about a film that doesn't try to pull the wool over your eyes and lets you know exactly what it is from the get go. I would've liked to hear more dialogue/comedy bits from this teaser, but overall this looks like damn good fun to me. Also, do men fight better with their shirts off?  That shit cracks me up.

The film stars Corey Sevier, Eve Mauro (pictured below), and Danielle Chuchran.

Here's the synopsis:

The story follows Dusty, a yoga instructor from Colorado, who is on a desperate rescue mission to save her crazy brother Derek, a conspiracy theorist who is convinced Osama Bin Laden is still alive, despite having been buried at sea. In Afghanistan, Dusty falls in with a team of NATO Special Forces on a secret assignment. Turns out Derek is not so crazy after all, and that Osama has returned from his watery grave and is making an army of zombie terrorists. When the group crashes headlong into the growing zombie apocalypse, Dusty and the troops must find and destroy the root of the zombie insurgency before it infests the rest of the world.

The filmmakers are trying to raise a few bucks to finish up their opus, so if you've got some disposable income you can head to their site and pledge some cash. Or, just wait for its inevitable release on Netflix streaming. Your choice, of course. Either way, I look forward to catching this someday, as I've got plenty of "serious" films already on my plate.

ridiculously badass

I know Bin Laden wasn't exactly a nice guy, but this whole "I'll dance on your grave" film trend (codename:Geronimo, that upcoming Bigelow flick and now this one) is kinda off putting.
But hey, how many Hitler parodies have been made? Anyways I have to admit this movie looks really funny coz it over-the-top clichéd and doesn't care.

I'll give this zombie movie a shot. No pun intended. As for cheesy movies, I like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

well it looks like it was done well, but I don't know if i want to see a zombie movie about a killer such as this. Watching Hitler gets his in the end was fun in Inglorious Basterds!

The movie is inherently implausible...

...we already shot Osama in the head. He couldn't come back as a zombie if he was bitten by one. Ditto Muammar Gaddafi & the Somali pirates. ;)

pretty distasteful I gotta say

and on the other hand pretty stupid as well, what the hell advantage does an Osama Bin Laden zombie have over any other zombie? Pretty sure the person died, and now the body is just the zombie, so he's not actually a terrorist zombie or anything--just a zombie... whatever though, I will admit there were some cool lookin shots for such a (I assume) cheap movie!

Clash of the Qaeda Zombies

Trailer's an obvious rip-off of "Clash of the Titans," not that anyone needed me to tell them that.
Before viewing the trailer I was going to write a big criticism of all this Bin Laden crap as too soon. After watching, I still have zero interest in actually seeing it, but I'm a little softened to the idea.
I've been critical of every Bin Laden project in the pipeline short of a documentary. I'm not ready to shell out money to watch his demise get turned into popcorn filler, or whatever.

Ten or fifteen years from now I hope someone will make a Monster Squad-style movie involving all the most despicable dictators and villains of history and then I would welcome his name to that group. But right now, even with Al Qaeda support dwindling, I sometimes think we overstep the boundaries. I'm just a more sensitive person I guess. I don't know.
