Bird tries humans

03.13.2008

Brad Bird Animation emperor Brad Bird, whose films IRON GIANT, THE INCREDIBLES and RATATOUILLE stand as a shining beacon in an otherwise mediocre (Pixar excluded, clearly) animation world, has finally decided to give directing actual live humans a try. He'll be making his live action feature directorial debut with the drama/thriller 1906. Set against the backdrop of the Great Earthquake of San Francisco in the titular year, the story follows a college student who uncovers a complex web of deceit while investigating the murder of his father. John Logan had previously written a draft of the script but Bird will tossing that out and starting fresh. The film, a co-production between Warner Bros. and Disney/Pixar, marks the first time Bird has made a film with WB since THE IRON GIANT.

Extra Tidbit: Bird started training as an animator at 14.
