We've got some new blu-ray's on the horizon, as Tom Cruise's JACK REACHER, Jessica Chastain's MAMA, Ruben Fleischer's GANGSTER SQUAD, and Brad Pitt's KILLING THEM SOFTLY find their way to your living room.  I've only seen two of the four, those being JACK REACHER and KILLING THEM SOFTLY. Having sat through a number of sub par action pics in the past six months, I can't think of a straight action movie better than JACK REACHER, which puts to shame the latest efforts from Schwarzenegger and Stallone combined. KILLING THEM SOFTLY is a movie that will alienate most audiences, but for the politically-minded art-house crowd it's sure to please.  I enjoyed it for the most part, but they marketed a film that didn't exist.  Definitely worth a look at home.

GANGSTER SQUAD got a lukewarm reception and everyone I spoke to said it was basically a fun rip-off of THE UNTOUCHABLES.  MAMA, on the other hand, was a big hit with horror fans at the box office, making the Guillermo Del Toro produced pic a check in the "win" box, which can be a rare thing for the horror genre.  Check out the details, release dates, and box art for all four titles below:

Synopsis:

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if he has his way—every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians he has under his thumb. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Sgt. Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart.

  • Commentary with Director Ruben Fleischer

Only picking up Jack Reacher but May 7th seems so far away still. I'll definitely rent Killing Me Softly cause the story has me curious. Probably also rent Gangster Squad just for the heck of it.

Will be getting all three except Killing Them Softly. That film was terrible and one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Will be picking up "Jacl Reacher" for sure, but damn, what's with the long turn-around.

LOL at the headline, too.
