Roberto Orci unsure of the future for the Amazing Spider-man franchise

Jul. 11, 2014by: Alex Maidy

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were a superstar duo with their writing and producing talents spread across multiple franchises and television shows. But, as the pair have gone their separate ways, it remains to be seen what will become of the projects there were partnered on. Orci has been named the director on STAR TREK 3 and while he develops that project, it looks like his involvement with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 follow-up films may not be as clear as Sony led us to believe.

Speaking to IGN, Orci revealed that he is not officially involved with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3, THE SINISTER SIX, or VENOM. When asked for some tidbits about the future of the Marvel franchise, this is what he said.

I dont know what their plans are for that franchise. I dont ever want to say never, but we have to figure out what their scheduling is in terms of when they want each movie. Ive read probably as much as anyone else. Theres a love for the Sinister Six, the idea of Venom theres an idea of Spider-Mans going to be one of these characters thats part of our business. Hes such a popular character. Spider-Mans not going to go away any time soon. When it all happens and how and all that has yet to be determined.

While THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 performed well at the box office earlier this summer, it definitely underwhelmed compared to the Raimi films and expectations from Sony who predicted a billion dollar gross worldwide for Marc Webb's film. Orci could still have involvement with the series and is just in STAR TREK 3 mode right now or he truly could be stepping away from the runaway train that Sony has on their hands. Hopefully things are not quite as tenuous as they seem from these comments.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 is still currently slated to hit theaters on June 10th, 2016.

Yeah, he's not alone. I've been unsure about the future of this franchise since July 2012.

If they want Spidey to survive...

...they need to hand the rights over to Disney. You know they'll protect the brand and integrate into the MCU. Hell, trade Mickey, Donald and a bag of pucks over to Sony for him!

A reboot so bad they're going to have to reboot it all over again, probably with something even worse. How about Rob Zombie's 'Skullfucking Spider-Man' next?

Ahhhh! Ohhhh! Really? Cause even before TMS 2 was out, they were talking about limitless sequels. I am sure TAS 3 will hit theaters in 2016. In the past , the only sequels I was sure were going to be released were for LOTR, Harry Potter and Saw.

Reboot it. Don't remake it, just do a James Bond-like reboot. Recast, and give us a world where Spider-Man has been Spider-Man for a long while. Bring in a better director. Bring back Raimi, or get David Fincher back involved with this. And leave the damn Ultimates comic out of it.

Hell Na! Keep Dunst, Tobey and the rest of the crew out of any more Spiderman movies, with the exception of Simmons, he was perfect. I don't mind Garfield, hate his big hair. Matter of fact, keep the writers away while your at it.

I thought it was great TBH.

Also, the reply and vote isn't working for me.

Just forget about these films altogether and just bring back Raimi, Tobey, Dunst, and Simmons and finally make Dylan Baker the Lizard. These first two rebooted films have been underwhelming and terrible to say the least.
