Bond theme music vid

Oct. 1, 2008by:

A while back I wrote a column about the best movie cameos in music videos (of course YouTube has signed pulled almost all the embedded clips making it pointless). It's a phenomenon we don't really see anymore. Case in point: the new music video for "Another Way to Die" from QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Sure there's plenty of Jack White and Alicia Keys but where's the Daniel Craig? And Olga K? Really the music video is rather remarkable but I love the beat of this song (Jack White's among the best at writing a catchy guitar riff). Check it out below courtesy Yahoo!

Extra Tidbit: No offense to Alicia Keys but why not just get the White Stripes to do the song?

As far as I'm concerned, this is an awesome track, one of the strongest James Bond theme songs, and one of the best songs of 2008. Jack White did a great job putting this song together. At first, I thought White and Alicia Keys' vocals clashed, but I like the way it sounds now. White brings the rock and adds a touch of darkness, and Keys brings the soul and adds a touch of sexiness. The lyrics are quite dark and fit Bond perfectly ("Someone that you think that you can trust is Another Way To

Again, "Another Way To Die" is a great track -- I've already listened to it over 20 times on my iTunes -- and it makes me more exicited about seeing QOS in November. I can't wait to hear this song during the opening credits on a good surround sound system.

Right!

Good call Dekard777! The Rita Collage one is chocked full of footage. Crow's theme does have footage, but I wouldn't say "a lot" --- the footage it does show is somewhat lost in the video style, at least it seems that way to me. I always remembered that one as falling into the "opening titles"-type video. looking back at it, it does have more than I remember.

Interesting point about the video and lyrics having a weird mesh. I still think the video is really well done - just seems really

NO LIKEY

I am a Big Bond Fan. So let me tell you straight up that while the song does grow on me I hate the video. I don't like that mommy look of J White but Keys looks hot. Something about the video seems mismatched. The white background doesn't suit a song about revenge, pain and murder. I also hope Arnold does a good job with making it significant in the movie like he did with Casino Royale. It was a great thing to hear the instrumental version of You Know My Name while Bond was in motion.

Also Tomorrow Never Dies music video had a lot of film footage as did All Time High.

It's no

This is pretty good, but a lot of other themes have been tops. The video is hot, though - nice work by the director

Yes and no. Tina Turner's Goldeneye had a lot of footage. Duran Duran's "View to a Kill" has the boys inserted into some of the film's footage. I think most of the Bond videos are either visually abstract like the opening montages (Sheena Easton, this one), or they are the performers engaged in their own Bond-like mayhem lifted from the film (Garbage, Madonna). I can't really think of any that had a lot of film footage aside from Tina Turner's.

I like the song

But I have to pick up on this

"No offense to Alicia Keys but why not just get the White Stripes to do the song?"

Meg White playing the drums on this song, are you serious?

hmm

it would sound better if only one of them was singing at a time and not together, it sounds really bad when their together.

If they would just cut the singing, this wouldn't be so bad. But the singing/lyrics suck! Sorry I tried to like this and while I like the music, as a whole, this is awful. They should have just made this one an instrumental piece. Would have been waaaaay better.

Oh man

I really tried to like this song. I love Craig as Bond, and I loved Casino Royale theme.

But this is just bad, god awful bad.

I just hope they make the intro pretty enough to compensate for the song, as hard as that might be.

I think it's amazing how they both vocalize in almost exactly the same range. It's almost disturbing.

I really like this song. So I'll assume that I'm either insane or Joblo is mostly populated by angry deaf people.

Well said, kdraines.

I told my buddy that yesterday. This song is brutal. I'm sure it will grow on me more, but it is bloody awful. It starts and stops abruptly, it starts and goes nowhere, and the vocals are unlistenable.

Truly a disappointment. Hopefully David Arnold has tweaked version in the film.

fuckin' dreadful

It's hard to believe they could come up with a James Bond theme song that's actually worse than Madonna's "Die Another Day" fiasco.

I couldn't even finish the song. It's unlistenable.

Too bad Amy Winehouse turned out to be an unreliable crack-head. I bet she could really crank out a good Bond theme song.

I actually think after hearing the song a few more times that I have changed my stance on the song. It really isn't that terrible. I think if the song plays to an awesome opening sequence similar to Casino Royale's I'll probably like it a little more.

Correct me if I am wrong but...

...didn't all the other Bond music videos incorporate clips from the movie throughout the video? Like 70% music video, 30% Bond footage? Maybe I am on crack and that is not the case, but I thought that was how things worked. This only has the last two seconds with footage from the movie. Either way, I still think that besides the good instruments, the vocals and lyrics suck really bad and Alicia "White people invented gangster rap so black people would kill each other off" Keys really annoys
