New Boyhood images plus details on the film’s great soundtrack

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Hidden among the summer blockbusters and sequels this year is Richard Linklater’s 12 year filmmaking journey BOYHOOD. As you may know by now, the writer/director filmed this drama over the course of 12 years, talk about commitment. We literally get to see a young boy, played by Ellar Coltrane, grow up on screen. I can't wait to see this possible game changer that our own Chris Bumbray Called in his Sundance review "the most important from a film history perspective".

Here’s the official synopsis for BOYHOOD:

Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater’s BOYHOOD charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before. Snapshots of adolescence from road trips and family dinners to birthdays and graduations and all the moments in between become transcendent, set to a soundtrack spanning the years from Coldplay’s Yellow to Arcade Fire’s Deep Blue. BOYHOOD is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting. It’s impossible to watch Mason and his family without thinking about our own journey.

When it comes to that soundtrack they just happened to mention, it's pretty impressive. It spans the 12 years that’s for sure; and how great is the inclusion of Band On The Run! During the first screening of Richard Linklater's BOYHOOD at the Sundance Film Festival in January Linklater cautioned that the music may not be final as he had not attained licenses for all of the songs.
