Brad Bird's second live-action film, TOMORROWLAND, hits theaters in just under 2 months' time and despite having directed one of the best installments in the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE series with MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL, everyone's been wanting to know if he'll revisit his other spy universe, THE INCREDIBLES. Disney has already announced that they'll be going ahead with a sequel regardless, but the big question is if Bird will be involved and if so, in what capacity. Fortunately for us, at the very least, he'll be writing the story. Speaking with NPR on their Ask Me Another program, Bird shed a little light on his progress.

Brad Bird discussing the progress of THE INCREDIBLES 2:

It’s percolating. I mean, I’m just starting to write it, so we’ll see what happens.

While Pixar has always been hit or miss with me, I remember seeing THE INCREDIBLES for the first time and thinking what a great action film it was, animated or no. There's a reason why people still want to see a sequel after all these years. It's still up in the air whether or not Bird will return to direct, but him writing the story is a step in the right direction.

Brad Bird's next film, TOMORROWLAND, hits theaters on May 22, 2015.

lol, martinphipps. We don't need to correct him for that mistake. Especially since it was minor.

Fuck. I will change that as well. However, if your going to be the grammar police you missed Bob-Loblaw's misuse of punctuation. It should be a . or ! instead of ? since he is not really asking a question. He is making a statement. Yet, I get the humor of it. He was correcting me because I was way off saying Undertaker instead of Underminer, although it has been a few years since I have seen it.

Well, it's about time!

Seriously, the ONLY Pixar film to beg a sequel and we got Cars 2.

Finally!

After all those Pixar-sequels no one asked for*, we get the sequel we want!

(*excluding Toy Story 2-3)

Best news I've heard all day!

THE INCREDIBLES is one of Pixar's first tier movies, and a movie that just gets better with age. As for a potential sequel:

- It's Brad Bird's to direct, unless he turns it down. John Lasseter knows Bird will always come through for him so the directing gig is his if he wants it.

- Take all the time you need, Brad. I'd rather wait 20 years for a great INCREDIBLES 2 rather than see a lame sequel.

I really hope he ends up directing, but at least he's writing the story. And I agree with MovieManiac in that if Marvel were to ever get the rights back to Fantastic Four, he would be the perfect director to helm it based off of the teamwork aspect in the Incredibles, and Ghost Protocol.

Pixar has always been hit or miss for you? Always? I know that the latest Pixar films have not met the high standards associated with this studio (Cars 2, Brave, Monsters University), but prior to those recent films, I don't know of that many misses that the studio had. They were mostly consistent with the quality of their films.

Same for me. When they nail it they knock it through the wall and for the most part they nail it often. Way more hits than misses in my view.

Sure but Toy Story 1,2 and 3, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., The Incredibles, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up. That's two good to every one bad. Not too shabby.

@MovieManiac...Oh, I know it's not too shabby at all. I was just mentioning Cars because that was their first stinker and it shouldn't have gone unmentioned. And I mentioned Planes because, well, it was shit.

First-tier Pixar (read: bona fide classics):

- TOY STORY 1,2 & 3
- MONSTERS INC.
- FINDING NEMO
- THE INCREDIBLES
- RATATOUILLE
- WALL-E
- UP

Second-tier Pixar (not as good, but still great):
- A BUG'S LIFE
- CARS
- BRAVE

Meh:

- MONSTERS UNIVERSITY

Kill it with fire:
- CARS 2
- PLANES

Twelve great films to 2 crap movies? Name a Hollywood studio with a better track record.

Oh man! Can't wait. This guy would do FF to perfection. If Marvel ever did get the rights back, Brad would be the no brainer hire.
