Brad Pitt heads to New Orleans for Cogan's Trade

12.30.2010

News came in November that Brad Pitt would be re-teaming with his director on THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD, Andrew Dominik. People seemed happy. I was happy. Did anyone ever listen to the score for that film? It's amazing.

Anywho, Pitt will return to New Orleans to start shooting on COGAN'S TRADE. The film is based on the novel by George V. Higgins which centers on, "Jackie Cogan, a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a high stakes poker game under protection of the mob." Another exciting part about this film is the rumored cast. Here's who might show up on-screen alongside Pitt: Casey Affleck, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Bill Murray, Mark Ruffalo, Sam Rockwell and Zoe Saldana. Holy shit if that's actually true. Not only does it re-team Affleck and Pitt, but it also puts the stars of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, Brolin and Bardem back together.

TRADE has already made a commitment to Second Line Stages and all the shooting is expected to be done in the New Orleans area. Production will begin in March.

Extra Tidbit: Has anyone read Cogan's Trade?

With the exception of Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Brad Pitt is the biggest and most beloved celebrity who lives in New Orleans. I'm a New Orleanian myself, and I'm glad to hear that Brad Pitt is going to make yet another movie in the city.

Sounds promising. Specially if Pitt and Bardem get together. Just hope it's more True Romance than Ocean's Eleven, as in more gritty and crazy than slick and polished. Seems like Pitt is intent on helping New Orleans, that should say something about the likelihood of this film getting made.

This would be amazing if it all came together. "The Assassination of Jesse James" is a brilliant movie and it's a damn shame that no one has ever really heard of it. If this cast came together, not only would it reteam Pitt and Affleck again, but it would also re-team Pitt, Affleck, AND Sam Rockwell again. Add in the dynamics of Bardem, Brolin, and Ruffalo and the eye candy of Zoe, then you'll have one hell of a movie.

Plus, heist and mob movies are like totally awesome.

Please Let It Be True

This sounds so potentially good that I don't believe it will come to fruition. Like the other 90% of Pitt's announced projects, I'm guessing this will fall through at the last second, too. I hope I am wrong, however.

Golly

100% guarantee this will not be the final cast. Too bad, though. "Assassination" deserves more recognition as a brilliant film - and will likely receive it in 20 years or so.
