Brad Pitt looking to David Fincher to direct World War Z sequel

08.10.2016

David Fincher World War Z 2 Brad Pitt

Despite its troubled production and mixed reviews, Brad Pitt's WORLD WAR Z still managed to make a bundle at the box-office, meaning that a sequel was an inevitability. Paramount announced the sequel not too long after the release of the first and Juan Antonio Bayona (THE IMPOSSIBLE) was later attached to direct, although he jumped ship earlier this year due to other commitments leaving Paramount scrambling for a replacement. According to Variety, Brad Pitt may be looking at an old friend to tackle the WORLD WAR Z sequel.

The outlet reports that Brad Pitt, along with Paramount and Skydance, have been having conversations with David Fincher with the hope that he'll direct WORLD WAR Z 2. Fincher and Pitt met several weeks ago and while the talk was initially lukewarm, Variety's sources say that the negotiations have moved much further down the road and that no one else has been made the offer to direct. Should David Fincher come on-board the zombie sequel, of which I have some serious doubts, it would mark his fourth collaboration with Brad Pitt after SEVEN, FIGHT CLUB, and THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON. Stranger things have happened, but having Fincher involved with the WORLD WAR Z sequel would definitely give it a boost.

WORLD WAR Z 2 is set for a June 9, 2017 release.

Eh?

How 'bout they get cracking on Rendezvous With Rama instead. Contact Morgan Freeman who obviously has been wanting to do it forever and you got yourself a nice little Se7en reunion.

Just make the book into WWZ2 and have Brad Pitt morphed into the Max Brooks role. Instead of being a journalist, Pitt is doing research for the government to chronicle all the shit that went down during the outbreak. As he travels around meeting survivors and people tell Pitt their stories, we see them acted out in flashbacks. Would be like an anthology movie with several small segments and this way it would follow the book. I'd love to see the church, the Lobo weapon, Iron Maiden's The

Maybe...

I'm so glad I read the book AFTER I saw the movie...
If I had read the book first I would've been pissed. I like the idea of a sequel so the could at least try to get it right this time...

I think Mr.Fincher has learned his lesson on why he won't do a sequel ever again.

If they're talking sequels...

They should adapt Fight Club 2.

Woah come on guys...

The first film definitely had its problems, but its well documented that most of those were because Marc Forster was an incompetent director. This is DAVID FINCHER directing a ZOMBIE MOVIE, how are we not more excited about this?!

I mean shoot, look what happened when Danny Boyle tried his hand at it.

The best thing would be to reboot it into a mini series that follows events from the book.
It isn't that hard Brad Pitt. The World War Z movie in name only made me angry for just using the name of the book and turning it into a run of the mill PG-13 action/survival movie.

Enjoyed the first one, but I would rather see the two collobotate on something else entirely.

Considering the source material, I still stand firm that World Wat Z would have been better served as a TV Series featuring new characters/stories each week...

I know a lot of people loved it, but I really really did not like it, would rather Fincher do something else, but if he can bring something to it, why not.

Hey fellow Jo'Blo'ers,
I had the opportunity to work as an extra here in the Pittsburgh area for a week with a Netflix series David Fincher is executive producing with Charlize Theron called Mindhunter.
Fincher was actually on set a couple of those days. You'd see him chatting away with the crew (I got a nod one day!), on his cell, laptop, and occasionally jumping behind the monitor with the episode's director to give him some guidance, I'd imagine. What I did learn is on many of his

What I did learn is on many of his productions he does like to do a ton of takes per scene and I can honestly attest first hand now that it be true.
Anyhow, aside from sharing my story, I cannot see him doing this with the release date 10 months away! I would imagine, if he did direct it, which I don't think he would, WWZ2 would have to be pushed back...

Does anyone still care?

Compared to other zombie films, WWZ was pretty bad. With a sequel taking this long to get off the ground, no one is going to care if and when it does come out.

Sure, why not.

The first one was alright, and I have to admit that I'd be interested to see David Fincher's version of the zombie apocalypse. If anything, I hope it has a loose relationship with the first movie, and is more of a soft reboot/remake.
