Branagh and Thor

Sep. 29, 2008by:

With Jon Favreau absolutley killing it as IRON MAN's director, it looks as though Marvel will continue to let actors direct their company cornerstones. In what must come as a shock to some and a surprise to many, real-live thespian and gentleman with a touch of class, Kenneth Branagh, is in serious negotiations to direct THOR.

Written by Mark Protosevich, THOR follows disabled medical student Donald Blake, who has an alter ego as the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor. I've never been a fan of this superhero per se, but with Branagh at the helm, DAREDEVIL this will not be. The film has a tentative release date of June 4th, 2010.

As far as casting, why not do something similar to the 13th warrior and actually cast a Dane or at least from the region) for the part? They have the look already and since a good portion of the world already speaks English to a degree, I'm sure many of the actors from there would have clear enough speech, yet keep the accent that is tied to it. The hardest part of it all is trying to find someone that is physically imposing, yet not from the Tyler [link] film school.

Triple H would be perfect. he'd need a slight nose-job and some acting lessons though! LOL.

Just... wow

Completely out of left field but its bold, and brave. A very clever pick.
I don't exactly pin him as a comic book fan, but lets roll with it, see what happens.

Thor isn't exactly a marquee Marvel character to many.

Hmmmmmmm

I'm not too keen about KB directing this. He is an amazing actor and all but doing an American comic book movie? I hope he does the right research and allows the right input. Who knows, maybe. We'll see.

I'm shocked by this directing choice, but I find it to be wonderful. You know it won't be a simple, cheesy action movie with Branagh at the helm. He tends to need depth in his directing projects.

Branagh is an inspired choice for director. I think Tyler Mane (original sabertooth) has the physical presence for Thor (like his part in Troy), but not to sure about him carrying a movie acting-wise.

There is only One choice for Thor...

You are absoultely correct Nvrnding, Vladimir Kulich would be perfect. IMHO he should be the only choice for Thor.

I completely agree...

with Soulburn420. He would need to tone up some, but Vladimir Kulich, from The 13th Warrior would be great.

Thor

You know, I was just watching a movie Saturday night and this very thing was discussed. My choice, would be the actor that played Bulwyf in The 13th Warrior. He absolutely could do it.

Branagh inspired choice

His remake of "Sleuth" was pants but everyone's allowed to make one stinker (looking at you Shyamalan).

I second Viggo as Thor - he's got Danish viking blood in him for crying out loud!

Rourke would make a great Crusher Creel. Brian Blessed as Odin would be freaking awesome.

As for Thor... Pitt would be neat to see, but I would much rather see Marvel get some Norwegian or Swedish actor that's over 6-feet tall. That when you see him on the screen you have to say: "That's freaking Thor."

WOW MICKEY ROURKE?

Seriously guys Thor is known to be very good looking in the comics I mean he is a God, Mickey Rouke is old and ugly you all can't be serious? So far Brad Pitt is the best I heard and he fits in with the age of Downey and Jackson.

Man, if this actually happens, it'll be fulfilling some strange need I never knew I had! Branagh directing Thor ... perfect!

Casting-wise, though, you need someone who looks like Triple H, but speaks like, well, Branagh. And I have no idea who that might be. It's a stumper.

Wowww. Kenneth Branagh? That's a total surprise. I'd say either Van Damme or Dolph Lundgren be Thor. That should be awesome.

Tight

Been waiting awhile to see what he does next. This could show his wide range. As for Mickey playing the part. Uhm no, it's a medical STUDENT. Not a medical wonder.

If u suggest Mickey I say VAN DAMMAGE, that's right I said it...

Nice

Branagh's obviously not the right man to play Thor, but hey, there's always Loki.

I could imagine Branagh wanting to have played Thor a while back but not now.
A Thor film has, perhaps more than any comicbook sourced movie, the potential to be complete balls unless handled just right. Still, if they delve into the Asgardian side of things you've got Odin and Loki to cast too. Brian Blessed as Odin anyone?
Maybe they should do it as an opera.

WOW.

That's some serious directing creds, I Hope it happens.

I'd be down with Rourke, Hopefully the Wrestker has gotten him some attention in Hollywood.

This is good news. Love me some Branagh.

And if he's directing, expecting Branagh to be wielding the hammer. You just watch.

AWESOME

Brannagh is seriously underrated as a director. "Frankenstein" was lacking, but still better than Coppolla's Dracula. And he's Hamlet is the best version ever done.

Thor? Till Schweiger

Thor Potentials

It has to be somebody with a daunting physical presence, but they have to come off very intelligent. As suggested Mickey Rourke would be a good choice, maybe Ron Perlman ... but you need a sickly person too ... man, I do not want to be in charge of casting the part, it will make or break the movie.
