Breck Eisner heading to Camp Crystal Lake to direct new Friday the 13th

08.08.2016

jason voorhees, friday the 13th,

Platinum Dunes and Paramount Pictures are in the midst of taking a big step forward in the resurrection of Jason Voorhees happening sooner rather than later,  Breck Eisner to direct the next FRIDAY THE 13TH flick.

JoBlo can confirm that Breck Eisner, who last sat in the director's chair for THE LAST WITCH HUNTER, has entered into talks to helm Jason's return, as Aaron Guzikowski's most recent draft of the script appears to have gotten the ball on the relaunch rolling out of development and towards production.

Eisner has waded into the waters of horror in the past. At one point, he was attached to direct a remake of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON before it eventually crumbled, and he does have a remake of THE CRAZIES, which is okay, to his credit. Will he be a good fit for Jason? It would certainly be nice to have an interesting director bring some flair to the character, that's for sure.

But as we all know, the success or failure of any future FRIDAY THE 13TH picture is going to rest on how frightening the horror aspect of the equation is. I'm not sure Jason running around killing teenage victims in creative ways is going to cut it anymore, and, if I were calling the shots here, I'd get back to basics of making Jason scary again, making him a monster again, making him the villain again. The audience shouldn't want to cheer for him to get his hands on the latest face from The CW. They should want them to run for their lives, praying for the slim chances of their survival.

Platinum Dunes = Nope

Platinum Dunes making it means it will probably be bad.

Yep. They have a track record of pretty much 100% making shit films. I literally already have no hope for this one.

Come on

If you tell me Jason running around killing people won't cut it anymore you clearly are A) not a true jason fan or b) have yet to check the receipts for the last jason film... which was essentially Jason running around killing people with a healthy dose of respect (opening sequence with pieces of the first 4 films) and boobs and a lotta blood... and 91.4 million at the box office. Boom. That is all you need. You could make that movie... and make it well 100 times and people will pay to see

You start trying to make a "Real" horror film out of friday the 13th ... you are in for trouble.

Making a F13 film nowadays is a challenge in some ways. I'd love to make an authentically scary film much in the same way the 1st film was but could one bring in crowds of that size again with this series that has a long history of just being a bunch of mindless slasher flicks.

Ok

I loved The Crazies, I thought that Witchhunter movie was awful. Crazies seems more personal, Witchhunter seemed to have a lot of chefs in the kitchen during production.....My expectations have grown with this news.

can we please stop pretending the last film was a hit, had a lot of fans, and Platinum Dunes and paramount dropped the ball. If they are getting the production going, then they should focus on making sequels when the first film was a hit.
