Brendan Fraser to take on his own version of Taken by starring in action-thriller Split Decision

Aug. 1, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

Brendan Fraser in Mummy 3

I often look at Brendan Fraser and think "now there's a man who I believe could, if pushed to the edge, majorly f*** my shit up." Okay, so I've actually never thought that.

Doesn't mean it couldn't happen though - Fraser was kind of really great in GODS AND MONSTERS, and perhaps the time is right fourteen years later for him to be kind of really great again.  Though it would be in an entirely different sort of story, as Fraser's new starring vehicle SPLIT DECISION centers around two kids who "witness a murder while on a wilderness camping trip with a family friend. When two criminal brothers start to hunt down the children to silence them, Fraser’s father-figure sets out to rescue them."

The criminal brothers in question will be played by Dominic Purcell ("Prison Break") and Ethan Suplee (UNSTOPPABLE, THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT, REMEMBER THE TITANS).  The movie was written and directed by Damian Lee (SACRIFICE and a whole host of other direct-to-DVD goodness) and is set to shoot in Ontario "shortly."

So how about it? Can you take Brendan Fraser seriously as a father on the edge? I actually enjoyed him recently in a so-so little flick called THE AIR I BREATHE, but still...

I've always been a fan of Fraser. Would love it if this were rated R and ultra violent.

I actually like Brendan Fraser alright, though "The Quiet American" and "Crash" were the last things I saw him in. But between Purcell and Suplee neither one being particularly on a roll, and Fraser once again trying to protect some kids, I don't have high hopes for this. The man surprised me with how well he could acquit himself action-wise in "The Mummy," but nothing in this sounds like it is any more than an Direct-to-DVD production.

You know what? I'm gonna remain cautiously optimistic. Dude's been needing to break out of Family Movie Hell for a while now, so here's hoping this helps him do it.

And yeah, he was great in "Gods and Monsters".

OK cool...

Now make it R and not PG-13 make the script good not cheesy and cliche and we should be good. PS:
GOD'S AND MONSTERS was really good. Been a while since I've seen it though.

listen B

This is strictly straight to DVD material buddy. I know you are a good actor and were hot shit in the Mummy. Hell, I loved that movie! But that was damn near 15 years ago. I think the milk has turned. When the Rock can show up in a sequel to your movie and beat the original in the box office, you have to realize that its you. Right?

I loved "The Air I Breathe" and thought Fraser to be a convincing badass there. If he brings that same intensity, I am sold.
