Brewster's remake?

Today on the remake front, it's been decided that BREWSTER'S MILLIONS is the next target. Even though MILLIONS has been adapted 7 other times from the book by George Barr McCutcheon.

The folks over at Warner Brothers hired screenwriters, Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan, to provide their take on the original 1902 novel. This will be the first attempt for the duo, aside from Dilberti's work as an assistant on the mind numbing FAILURE TO LAUNCH...but you gotta start somewhere right?

Everyone knows the plot, the main character inherits millions from a dead Grandfather but has to spend them within a certain amount of time to obtain a bigger payoff. The catch, he can't talk about it. The amount of money and amount of time changes from adaption to adaption, kind of like an urban legend.

Yeah, it could be fun, sure. Let's watch some guy spend a crap ton of money, while our economy suffers in the process. That'll make people feel real good. I see how this was a great idea in the eighties, and especially with Richard Pryor and John Candy.

I don't know, maybe I'm a tad too harsh on remakes, but I don't care. Until the world is drained of original ideas then that's when I'll stop bitching. Because I certainly want to leave my kids with the film legacies of STOP OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT 8 or BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED 9.

Extra Tidbit: Dilberti and Sullivan got the job because of buzz on a Comic-Con movie. I'd take that idea over any remake.
