Brian Cox joins Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Peter Dinklage in Pixels

06.12.2014

It doesn't seem like many of you are too high on Chris Columbus' upcoming PIXELS starring Adam Sandler, however it does have a few things going for it. It's based on Patrick Jean's excellent 2010 short film about video game characters attacking New York, and it will also star Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad and Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage. Ok, so I could do without Kevin James, but the rest of the cast is pretty solid.

THR has learned Brian Cox has joined PIXELS as well, and he will be playing a military leader named Admiral Porter. In PIXELS, aliens believe video feeds from classic video games are a declaration of war, and attack the Earth in a similar style. To battle the invasion, the U.S. President (Kevin James) recruits a group of video game experts, including his childhood best friend (Adam Sandler). Production on PIXELS will likely being in Toronto sometime this month.

PIXELS certainly sounds interesting, but I'm really hoping there will be less toilet humor and more actual jokes in Adam Sandler's new movie, unlike some of the actor's most recent films.

PIXELS is scheduled to be released on May 15, 2015.

Guess it depends how cleverly written it is - if the humour isn't up to scratch then there's limited appeal. Sandler's presence seems like a warning.
Futurama did a pretty good story with this concept, but stringing it out to feature length might prove difficult to maintain the fun without getting repetitive.

Adam Sandler and Kevin James' presence isn't really instilling me with much hope. But I'd like to think that Peter Dinklage is in a position to turn down a role or two if the script isn't on point. I'm holding out hope.

I really like the plot but can't stand Kevin James and Adam Sandler.

I like Kevin James.

I think he is pretty funny in the right roles, which he doesn't seem to get. I'm more upset that Peter Dinklage is choosing a movie like this. The last thing I want to see happen is for him to start picking any role that comes along due to his new fame, kinda like Bryan Cranston did after Breaking Bad blew up.

I love the premise, love the short film, really think it should be taken out of Sandler's hands.

Jesse, you can do without Kevin James but Sandler is ok??? And were you being ironic when you wrote "less toilet humor and more jokes unlike SOME of his (I refuse to call him an actor!) most recent FILMS (I can't believe I referred to his shit as a film...)? I only ask because you wrote SOME instead of ALL.

Kevin James as U.S. President? That's it. I'm boycotting Sandler's movies.

The upshot with Kevin James being President is that generally the President is usually not involved in the action, so that means less of the uber-lame banter between Sandler and James. Unless the President is involved in the action this go around, which could happen since Sandler put his crummy paws on the latest rewrite of the script.

Most anticipated Sandler movie in decades.

I love the short, I love Dinklage and Cox and yes, I still believe Sandler can be funny but only when he stops trying to be a 21 year old...

I love the 80s references in all his movies, its mainly the only reason why I still watch them. So Pixels (about the attack of 80s arcade enemies) is high up there on my most anticipated movie list.
