Brie Larson is the mighty Captain Marvel in first official images

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Half of the Avengers team may be wiped out, but as we saw at the end credits of INFINITY WAR there's one hero who is still around to answer the call: Captain Marvel. Brie Larson is playing Earth's Mightiest Hero and will get her debut in next year's CAPTAIN MARVEL all before giving Thanos (Josh Brolin) the business in AVENGERS 4. We've seen some set photos of her in action, but have yet to see her in any sort of official images, video or even a poster. Well, today the wait is finally over, and EW has the first official image from the upcoming superhero film, and Larson is without a doubt the Captain Marvel we've all been waiting for.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is Marvel Studios' 21st movie and the first to star a woman in the leading role. The EW piece reveals that this is not an origin story, and when the movie starts Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel already has her powers and has joined an elite Kree unit called Starforce – led by Jude Law's character. She then finds herself back on Earth in the '90s, and must confront her past and reconcile her alien powers and human nature. Larson spoke about her characters flaws, saying they are what make her special.

“She can’t help but be herself. She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face. She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.”

The movie is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and the cast includes Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Gemma Chan, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, McKenna Grace, Annette Bening and so many more.
