Updated: Broken Lizard has met their goal to produce Super Troopers 2
SUPER TROOPERS may finally be getting the sequel everyone has wanted but it will be contingent on whether you want to pony up the dough to help make it happen. That's right, SUPER TROOPERS 2 is going to be crowdfunded via an Indiegogo campaign launched today by the cast. Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske (better known as Broken Lizard) have made several comedies over the past decade but none have been as embraced as their cop comedy from 2002. Now, after being teased with a cool video teaser, we may finally get the film.
Here's a run down from the campaign as to what they need.
You can head over to the site for more details, but it seems like this is going to be an easy goal to reach. The studio has already agreed to distribute the film, they just need the $2 million to make it. With a month to go, you can see from the embed below that they are already making a decent dent with the site just launching today.
Crowd-funded movies have enjoyed varying levels of success in the last couple of years. After VERONICA MARS set the Internet ablaze with how quickly it made the money they needed, Zach Braff's WISH I WAS HERE turned a lot of people off by requesting money that seemingly could have been provided by the filmmakers themselves. SUPER TROOPERS has always been a cult favorite so having the chance to take part in it's creation is almost as fun as the movie itself.
With plans to make the movie this summer, I would expect this goal to be met soon. So, if you want to get some swag or a cameo in the movie, head on over to their campaign and contribute right meow.
