Bruce Campbell is no longer interested in Bubba Nosferatu

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Well, this is upsetting news. Turns out that the planned BUBBA HO-TEP sequel we've been hearing about for years isn't going to be happening after all. At least not with Elvis (aka Mr. Bruce Campbell) attached.

Campbell recently sat down with EW for an interview and was asked about the present state of the planned sequel BUBBA NOSFERATU: CURSE OF THE SHE VAMPIRES (which I had no idea was the current title) and he flat-out told them he wasn't doing to be part of any Ho-Tep sequel. Ever.

Bruce Campbell on BUBBA NOSFERATU:

I killed it. I killed it for me. I told the creators that I didn’t want to dance around it anymore. I feel that the first one was a nice little gem and you don’t have to make a sequel for everything. Don Coscarelli, God bless him, go make it. You know, get somebody else. They had Ron Perlman at one point. Knock yourself out. I don’t want to stop you from making this, but I don’t want to [do it]. So, that one I’m just going to let go.

Well. Sh*t.

I guess I get what Campbell's saying. Not all flicks need a sequel. But BUBBA NOSFERATU seemed like a sure-fire hit to me. Then again, Campbell would have the inside story on such a project – possibly even have read a script – so I'll trust his judgment. Maybe this project is best left to the imagination.

BUBBA HO-TEP synopsis:

After falling into a lengthy coma following a freak accident involving hip gyration, a now aged Elvis Presley (Bruce Campbell) wakes up in an East Texas nursing home, where he befriends Jack (Ossie Davis), an African-American senior who claims to be President John F. Kennedy. After residents of their quiet retirement community start dying of dubiously unnatural causes, Elvis and Jack discover that the perpetrator is Bubba Ho-Tep (Bob Ivy), an Egyptian mummy with murderous intentions.
